When I started playing Nehrim, towards the beginning of the game, I had a glitch where I couldn't find Martin (I think that's his name). I finally found him off in the distance running against a rock, so this Isn't my problem, that was just the start of my troubles.
After he asked me to find some support beams, I easily found the shovels. After all, it was marked on my map. After the shovels, I went and talked to martin, or whatever his name is. He said "stay away from the gate." So now I was thinking i didn't do something right for the quest (which is still a possibility). Because of this, I decided to further raid the cave of everything I was able to pick up, just in case I missed something. Still, no luck. I FINALLY decided to look at a video walk through. When the person who made the walkthrough walked up to the gate after he got the shovels, mages attacked. The walkthrough was in German, so I had to clue what he was saying.
Did I miss something, or is my game just glitched?

When I retrieved the shovels, and walked to the gate, the Mages attacked, so the shovels were never used. They are a quest item so they still remain in my inventory.
well yeah, but the mages DONT attack on my game. It's very frustrating...
Okay, here's the save. I tried just about everything, including experimenting with console (I didn't save after doing so), to fix it.
I think I'm probably going to have to start a new game, or reinstall it. So to avoid trouble, if anyone can diagnose the problem that would be excellent. I am using the steam version by the way.

I have sent you a patch that should fix the bug. However, the mages are prone to running away, leading you into a killbox - try not to follow them but rather to run back into the direction of the mine (they will then follow YOU and you can fight them).
