Hi!
First let me say I've really been enjoying Nehrim. I know some rudimentary German, so I've been able to play through relatively succsefully and understand most of what's going on.
I have however run into a problem. I collect the 2 shovels for Morten and bring them down to him, but he just yells at me to get away from the gate when I speak to him. From what I understand, the mages are supposed to attack when I come back down. I thought I might have missed something important along the way, since my German isn't perfect, and did a replay up to the part with the shovels using the English patch beta. I got the exact same problem. Could somebody help me out please? Is there a console command to start the mage attack script or something.

How did you obtain the soap? Have you provoked the mages?
To get the soap I climbed up the cliff and jumped onto the top of the wall with the guards, then just collected the pile of the stuff. I haven't done anything to the mages really, I tried shooting at them with my bow but couldn't hit them.

Were you shooting the mages through the window? And they didn't react?
arvisrend wrote:Yes, that's what triggered the bug (and has been made impossible with patch 1.0.2 or so - or have you still found a way to jump down to the soap with the patch?)Siegfried wrote:To get the soap I climbed up the cliff and jumped onto the top of the wall with the guards, then just collected the pile of the stuff.

You need a save where you have not picked up the soap yet.

I have the same issue where the mages don't react to to arrows being shot at them. Unless I am missing a step.
I plugged up the rat holes and turned in the first quest.
Then the guy with the helmet shows up with his problem.
Soap is the suggested solution. (no idea where to go, so I check the forums here, and guess I have to shoot the mages outside the gate)
- buy a bow, shoot at mages, they don't react.
am I missing something?
I even went back to a save point in the mines and replayed most of it - got the same non-reaction.

I must be missing a step then.

never mind I figured it out. I was missing a step.

Hi,
I am getting this bug I think. I just magically had soap when that guy with the helmet came so I resolved that quest immediately. I never provoked any mages or talked to the guards below about soap. Now I have the shovels and bricks and nothing has happened. The guard just tells me to go away.
Is there a way to fix this with a console command? I don't want to go through the entire intro again I don't have a save from before (I can't manually save except for quick saves off a fresh steam install + Nehrim install + Nehrim patch + a couple of mods).

Hi!
I'm not sure if this is of any help, but you can try using console commands with the quest journal :
http://nehrim.wikia.com/wiki/Under_Siege#Quest_Journal
I don't know how console commands work when it comes to quest, but I do hope this journal will be of any help.
Good luck!

Thank you, that eventually solved it. I had to set the quest to 40 (console command "setstate mq01tate 40") and then talked to the guard and the quest was finished. The gate was still locked, so I used console commands to unlock it (open console, click the gate to highlight it, then type unlock). Then since the scripted death zone is still there in front of the gate, I had to use no clip (console command ncl) to fly around past it. Finally, the next part of the quest where the guy boats me to the Abbey did not start, so I set that quest to 0 (console command "setstate MQ01Porim 5") to start it and the boy talked to me immediately. The only artifacts of my workaround are the gate being present, and some non-interactable battle mages, and the death zone I'll have to no-clip around later.
The "scripted death zone" is not a death zone anymore. You should really update your Nehrim to the 1.1.1.1 patch; this solves many more problems. (It will not fix your broken save, but at least you will not run into the same bug with a new character anymore!)
Actually I noticed it didn't kill me, I do have the latest version. I just heard it previously discussed as the "scripted death zone" so I referred to it as such (and thought maybe it became a death zone during the actual part of the quest).
