Ahoy, I tried to play the game in Russian with the translation from Steam, but it has untranslated parts and various bugs, which can totally break game mechanics.
I decided that I want to fix that problems, but modding the current translation is hard task, because, how I understand this, it's made for earlier version of the game, which is causing these problems.
So I decided to make translation of the game by myself from the scratch based on Eng version with partial proofreading on Deutsch version, it's been an easy task, with my 4 years of experience with translating literature. I translated around 50% of game in just a week, working in TES Construction Set, but problems started when I unpacked "L - Misc.bsa" and started working with "strings.xml", I successfully changed the fonts, and them work in game, but not in the parts that I translated in "strings" file (It uses Cyrillic symbols, but not the right one, mostly it "Р" and "С") and some parts still untranslated, I suppose that it's due to newer versions of the game uses heavily modded Darnified UI and have complex structure with many xml files in the "N - Misc.bsa", so I want to cooperate with devs, to understand which files may contain code that need to be changed and which files may contain text that needed to be translated in all this xml files hell.
And I have lore questions, most parts of the game I translated using names from Enderal, where it was applicable, but I have some moments, that I want to discuss with devs.
"Spectral Being" ("Астральное существо") is pretty similar to "Aura Thief" ("Вор ауры") from Enderal, is it the same beings?
Should I translate the undead monsters like they wrote in Enderal? In example, translate "Reaper" ("Жнец") to a "Reaper Lost One" / "Reaper Fleshless Lost One" ("Бесплотный заблудший-жнец") or something like that?
In Enderal potion quality gradation ends with "(Exclusive)", but in Russian more correct be to use "(Исключительное)", not the current translation "(Эксклюзивное)", so I want to change it in at least Nehrim.
I suppose that "Dwarf" is "Star people", and the difference in namings is due to mistakes in work while developing a game. Is it correct? Can I write "Star people" ("Звёздники") instead of "Dwarfs" ("Дворфы")?
I suppose that using month names from Enderal isn't correct, but in the same time using real world ones is feeling even more incorrect, how i should name the months?

Alright, it took something around 3-6 days, but text from strings now correctly displayed in Russian. Problem was in the strings file himself, I changed encoding of file, and now it displays Russian text correctly. And untranslated parts of menu found on "Gameplay - Settings" in Construction Set, which I don't edit before.
So many technical problems when working with games, haven't been prepared to that, after literature. But gladly found answers to my questions.
But I still need help with lore questions. And also wanted to translate credits and launcher, but idk how.

hi, welcome to the forum
first, thank you for this effort, that's a huge task!
we (the support team) will gladly help with any lore questions!
they're not the same.
I'd keep the Nehrim label.
the creatures are mostly different, the ones that are the same were alredy named accordingly (would be my guess
)
the Lost Ones are a religious .. "thing/label" in Enderal, it would make more sense to restrict it to that continent / game
makes sense
yeah, Star People is correct
the german version does indeed use german month.
we had to check because you barely notice it. you start a run in June and if you take your time you go one until maybe August.
(to me it also always feels off, and then i forget about it
)
as additional info, days of the week
Mondim
Tyrsdag
Wodnesdag
Donarg
Frenag
Sonnabend
Sonnstand
- "-dag" is used intead of "-tag" which translated to "-day"
- Tyrsdag named (presumably) after Tyr, the Lightborn
- Sonnabend / Sonnstand is german, translating roughly to Sun's Evening / Sun's Standing (Saturday/Sunday)
I can't find the English translation of Sonnabend right now, but it uses "Sundas" for Sunday,
the same Enderal uses, so it might be "Lordas"?
Enderal translates the days to Morndas/Tirdas/Moddas/Turdas/Fredas/Lordas/Sundas
- the other days would be either references to nordic gods (like "Wodnesdag") or.. vibes?
sadly the devs are super busy and can't assist :/

And Nehrim one of my favorite games, from the time when I played it around 8 years ago. So I decided to combine business with pleasure, and work on Nehrim translation
Thanks, very appreciate your help!

And a couple of additional questions.
I edited credits a little. Some Deutsch symbols aren't displayed properly on Russian system, so I changed them to English equivalents, so developers names will be shown properly + added our team near end of credits as additional category (Don't know how many of us will work on game in the end), to list there translators, proofreaders, play testers and graphics editors. Is it okay with you?
And I localized game logo to Russian, is it okay with you? (I'll send how it looks in game, but note that thats WIP and translation and logo can look diffferent in future)
Oh, and can I somehow cooperate with you to translate achievements, description and other things in Steam to Russian, so Russian users can also view all this things without needing to translate it?

maybe have it as "Nehrim" and the translation a bit smaller diagonal below it? (or something like that)

and may very likely not have the time for anything Nehrim related.
sorry
Hi again! I've been busy in real life, so translation slowed down, but I'm still working on Russian localization.
There only left around half of quests and almost all big books (Notes and all stuff like this is ready).
Then I will distribute localization with original logo, but also provide additional file, which will contain version with translated logo.
And if you decide to replace current Russian translation, with our localization, then it will use original logo, and we won't distribute translated logo anymore.
How about that variant?
As I understand, the person who responsible for Steam don't have time for Nehrim, when you asked. But could you, please ask again? Maybe after 4 months he has a little more spare time.
And if not, I will ask again when translation be ready for 100%. Yep, I like Nehrim a lot and gonna be a little persistent with this matter
And I want to tell a little about our plans on translation.
When main work on exactly translation itself be ready, we will start proofreading and playtesting. But also, we want to release translation as "Beta 0.1", immediately after main part of translating, if be more concrete — before proofreading and playtesting be over. And with the help of the community, fix problems in our localization. And like this, in small steps, go to releasing version 1.0 of localization. So when this happens, I will want to discuss with you if there be opportunity to add our translation to the game.
Fuf, and now, time for question that I initially was going to answer, when opened forum
I translated the game map from English variant, and there is written "Nehrim by the year of 8187 after Star". And now when I started to translate big books, I found one that contains historical events of universe of Vyn, by most the recent one, so there is written "In the year 8900 a. St., Narathzul Arantheal was born, son of the Paladin leader and nobleman Tealor Arantheal who ruled over the North of Nehrim." and "In 8923 a. St. he managed to defeat the majority of the Order, as well as the God Erodan, at a battle for the town Treomar.".
So there is question — is there some errors in the dates somewhere, or just the map is so old?
P.S. I wanted to hide book fragments as spoilers, but couldn't manage to do so. I found how to make a spoiler, but not how to end him, so he won't hide too much text

we'd rather have the logo stay

hi!
sounds good
the map is old.
source: i drew it
I don't remember what year I based it on, but the thought process was: "the map is obviously WAY older than that."
(like, maybe Nehrim got a new worldmap done the exact year Treomar fell, but that would have been a pretty strange coincidence.)
(there are also quite some changes between Nehrim and Enderal)
