Lot of problems
Post by mazur49 »
Hi! Thank you (all of the Team) for your great mod. Unfortunately I could not make to play propely and hope you could help me.
Well, there was no problem during installation, but when I started the game I immedietly noticed bunch of exclamation marks. I know that means engine has not found proper meshes so I decided to check them in CS. You could see in pictures I posted that CS also had a problem to find those meshes, so I decided to check their availibility with BSA browser. No surprise there they are since these are vanilla meshes and your mod uses vanilla bsa archives.
What could be the reason for this sort of distortion?

Here it is.
It's really strange that engine can'ty find vanilla resources.

OK, that looks right.

Steam or D2D Version of Oblivion?
Which Windows?
If Vista or Win7: Did you install Nehrim into a directory that is protected by UAC? That often won't work and will break the Update mechanism of the Launcher.

Did you try to reinstall Nehrim?

I run Windows XP Sp2, and DVD version of Oblivion.
However your remark about the Launcher gave me an idea to check if it's working OK and I found something weird. See the screenshot:

I used a thorough approach. Unpacked vanilla bsa archives and exclamation marks gone. I guess the problem was with the name of these archives. They (names) could be different in localised versions and mods made using one of them could be incombatible with standard edition or another localised version.
Thank you for your time and great mod!

The installer bug is something that really should not happen.

Maybe Hoxyd has an idea about this?

No, the .bsa and their ressources should always be the same. If they were not unpacking would not help.

Giving it a second thought I think you are right. Then what could be wrong?

The launcher is completely independent from Oblivion and pretty much self contained.
Since it is also affected I'd guess it is rather a problem on the Windows side. But what? - No idea.

On Vista or Win7 UAC would be the main culprit as it silently (as far as the installer is concerned) blocks file access.
Or has your antivirus software similar ambitions and blocks file access in the background?

It could be a really "interestingly" broken download of installer. Which should not happen since it contains a couple of sanity checks...
The md5 sum of the installer should be: 2395ef942f7bc67be794f267604c3809
The sha1 sum of the installer should be: be78743ad9391e3a741ced11a769afd2ee906aac

Other than that it is pretty much back to installation lottery:
If you have a modded Oblivion start with making backups.

Reinstall Nehrim. (IIRC that did not work.)

Remove Nehrim.
Remove Oblivion. (Via setup, not simply deleting the files.)
It is Windows, it never hurts to reboot. ;)
Install Oblivion. (Extensions and Mods not needed.)
Patch Oblivion!
Run Oblivion, it should work.
Install Nehrim.

Nehrim should work.

If the Nehrim installer throws errors or warnings during the installation, don't ignore them - make a screen shot.
