I have followed the guide and can start the game, but I'm getting some strange graphic errors.
The bottom-bar and inventory is completely messed up, and the first NPC I meet, is a large yellow square with an exclamation mark (and a small head in the middle):

Am I the only one with this error, and does anyone know how to fix it?
btw... I'm have the GOTY release of Oblivion and haven't installed any additional mods.

As far as I know you are the first one to post this kind of bug, have you installed The Shivering Isles with the Vanilla Version of Oblivion, if not you should check if Oblivion is patched to the latest Version 1.2.0416
Btw. are you sure that you haven't installed any Texture replacer into your Oblivion folder?
Maybe you should just try Installing Nehrim again...

I have this exact same problem!
Which Oblivion version?
Its the latest version
I reinstalled and everything works fine now, so I guess I must have done something wrong the first time
btw... been playing Nehrim for the last five hours... WOW
this is great!
Thank you for making this, it's got everything I missed in Oblivion.

Reinstalled oblivion and nehrim multiple times as well as redownloaded nehrim from three different sources... still getting the same problem. How did you fix this problem?
I never had this problem.
Are you using the Steam or Direct2Drive versions? They can be a real pain in the behind...
The Oblivion install is patched to v1.2.0416 before installing Nehrim?
The md5 sum of the downloaded Nehrim installer is right? (2395ef942f7bc67be794f267604c3809)
Any errors during the install?
The load order consists of
Nehrim.esm
NehrimData.esp
English.esp (or whatever the translation file is actually called)
in exactly this order and nothing else?

Had a semi-same error myself (Only textures were purple)
Simple fix, reinstall oblivion. One of the vanilla oblivion BSA's were either edited or partially removed. meaning Nehrim couldn't copy them correctly to your directory (This is certainly not impossible if you have a load of mods)
So, removing all mods. Deleting the whole oblivion folder, reinstalling. THEN installing Nehrim shouldfix this issue.
If there's still a problem, then either your oblivion installation is corrupt orNehrim is failing to copy stuff correctly.
