I just started playing the game and when i loaded in everything around me was pitch black except for what was in the direct path of the sun ahead. i fumbled my way around tell i found the Daddy character and when i talked to him it was so dark that i could not even see him. then i stumbled around tell i found the door to the house and went in but still could not see. everything in the game is pitch black like there is no lighting at all in the game world except for direct sources of light like the sun and the fire place in the house. is this normal? or is there some thing wrong with my install of the game? i am also running it on a fresh install of Skyrim with no mods installed at all.
I went Back into the game and took a few screen shots of the begining of the game to try and better explain what the problem is. these are all of the very start and right by the House/Daddy npc. http://imgur.com/gallery/KNXLs
Usually when you get black textures like this something has messed up during installation. If you've done a fresh install, but had mods in the past then this can have an effect. Uninstall the entire Skyrim game, ensure that you remove any traces of left over mods/folders and reinstall the game and the mod.
Yes,absolutely stuck, I am.
Really stuck.
Here I was, wandering down the beginning River, going through the gate and down to the sea. I explored the wreck of the ship.
Now I see darkness is to fall.
Better get to riverville.
I go to the logical direction, the flatlands to the left of the river.. There is the abandoned watchtower, I see a sign pointing to river dale.
Good.
Getting dark.
Yet another sign and there is a bridge. Good.
NO RIVERDALE!
It's now dark. The path leads to bandits and pitch dark and I cannot fight them. No RIVERDALE that way!
The stairs seems to lead to an abandoned temple. Back across the bridge, there is a temple there. Maybe I can rest.
No! It's abandoned too, with enimies..
I retrace my steps back to the base of the falls so I can go through the gate to back up to campsite rest place.
Nope! There is no trail seen, in the pitch black night?
I am stuck. Really stuck. I cannot even find where RIVERDALE is! No one has a map on the Internet. The only hint is an interactive map and it seems to indicate RIVERDALE is to the right of the river, beyond that wreck!
If so, the signpost is wrong!
So far, my only solution is to just wait out the many many hours....
Maybe there is a cheat code to set the time!
That might be my only way out.
I just CANNOT bumble about in the dark!
I have come across this problem in games before, to soon find myself in pitch black night and no way to rest until dawn!
Thanks....freestone

On my computer it's very dark as well. My eyes aren't as good as they once were either. There is a English version of a "Wait" mod that allows you to wait through the night without having a place to sleep. Things are much more viewable when the sun is shining. As this is my first post I'm unable to post a link but I will try to post a followup message.

It shouldn't be quite that dark if you aren't using any ENBs or other mods that change the lighting. Have you already tried to change the brightness in the main menu settings or to adjust you monitor's brightness?
BTW, it's Riverville, not Riverdale, and you can see the myrad tower close to Riverville (called myrad tower on the Sun Coast) on your in-game map, just as general direction where to go.

I had seen this mod before but the wording was not clear, probably not his native language.
Yes, darkness. Oh I can see, but I miss all of those hidden treasures and trying to hit an archer enemy in the dark is not fun!
So I will install the mod. Then find riverville.
I wasxafraidcrhatci wouldchavecrocgo back and reload a save!

If it's that dark there is somewhere an ENB between the files. Remove the ENBs. You've been warned during the installation that they wont work properly with Enderal.
If you have checked that there is no ENB active, disable OneTweak in the launcher settings and you should be able to change the brightness.
