I have searched for hours (days have passed in the game) trying just to find a way to get to the Fortress Fogwatch. Have circled that mountain at least three times looking for a path up to it. Went into Clearwater Cave hoping it had an exit on the other side. Same with the Root Mine, and another cave with Brown in the title I forget now. Was convinced that high narrow rock bridge was going to lead there but that was a dead end also.

Any direction is appreciated.

Just cross the lake and hold left all the time while walking through the Whisperwoods. The fortress is up in the mountains.

Thanks. I had been to the entrance and didn't see the chain to open the door. Went back in brighter daylight, and there is was.
