The icons are just gray dash marks and I can't proceed with the install.

Go to: documents\my games\skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini
somewhere is this displayed: "sD3DDevice="Intel (grpahics card)"".

Cut out this line and paste it under "[Display]". Type in the name of your graphics card between the quotation marks of "sD3DDevice":

for example:

[Display]
sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce 770"
