So I made a clean install no mods of morrowind.
unpacked Artktwend into the morrowind folder so meshes went where they should, arktwend.esm is in write place.
I then overwrote the data files for arktwend german version with english files and added english .esm
everything starts fine. a bik runs, no errors.
I get to the point where I am supposed to put a name. the keys do not work. space works
but no letter key works so in order to enter name I put spaces thinking the problem was with naming.
but now WASD does not move me around.

somehow quiting the game and steam and restarting fixed it.
Even I was also facing the same problem. Then I tried fixing a long time got fed up.
welcome to the forum
to expand on the somewhat meager "question" (in case we want to separate the thread
)
the keyboard is not responding correctly, space works fine?
and restarting Steam didn't solve it?
it's apparently a known bug in Morrowind that appears if the music / sound is completely turned off.
could that be the reason?
otherwise, here's a thread about not responding keyboards in Skyrim, maybe there's something helpful anyway?

It as occured in various games. always the W key which leads me to believe that
over use of the key with other factors causes this problem.
unplugging keyboard, restarting computer, making sure the keyboard is not low battery, along with time, seem to fix it at least for a few days if I am lucky.
I should get a new keyboard but my old one is really good one (was about 70 bucks) and I don't want to splurge.
thanks for responses!

I've had this problem with the W because so many games use it for forward movement. I think the material (plastic/rubber?) beneath the key gets worn out. My W was almost completely depressed so just the tiniest touch would activate it. Then I had the same problem with the space bar.
My solution #1 - I got a cheap $10 keyboard and have replaced it twice in 2 years because of that problem.
solution #2 - go to options and select a different key for forward movement.
solution #3 - use a controller.
