Core 2 Duo e7200 @ 3.4 ghz
4 GB Memory
ATI Radeon 4850
I have Nehrim patched to the latest version. Everything runs fine from the tutorial cave up to the first part of the outdoors. However, I enter the mine where you are required to kill/stop the rats at the beginning of the game, and my game comes to incredibly low frame rates. Low to the point where I can't even play the game, such as less than five FPS. It seems to only happen in this area so far, but I can't proceed in the game because of it.
I have tried the game on every setting, from lowest to highest, and nothing changes the fact that my FPS is terrible with the rat part.
any ideas?

Your low framerate is most likely caused by your sound driver. There is a mod called "quiet feet" that solves this problem.
