I just installed this, but for some reason I can't start a new game. When the box comes up asking if I want to start a new game, and I press yes, it just goes back to the title menu.

Are you starting from the Nehrim Launcher? Start Nehrim launcher and in data files ensure the 3 files Nehrim.esm / NehrimData.eso / NehrimEnglish.esp are the only files ticked. See if that helps.
