I just reinstalled Oblivion for this mod alone. Unfortunately, I can't get the 1.2.0416 patch to install - the installer simply freezes at 0%. So I have two questions:

1) If I obtained a copy of Shivering Isles, would that be enough since it includes the 1.2 patch for the original OB? Or would I need the SI patch, too? My problem appears to concern the installer itself, so I doubt I'd be able to install that either.

2) Is the patch absolutely necessary to run Nehrim? i.e. will the game not play at all/be completely messed up without it because you need certain scripts from it or something like that, or is it simply more likely that I'll run into problems because it's been optimized and tested for a patched game?
1. Which version of Oblivion do you have? "US" or "UK/Europe/Australia"

2. I think this picture says enough. http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/u ... atches.htm

The picture is only half of the story. What it means to say is: if you have SI, then you should install the Oblivion+SI patch rather than the pure Oblivion patch.

And yes, it is important. A Nehrim save gets corrupted in around 40-60 hours of gameplay without it.
Sandmann: I have the North American version, and used the NA patch. I also don't have a no-cd patch or anything - I've only installed Oblivion, nothing else related to it - so that's not the problem. I posted a topic with more details about the patching problem here.

arvisrend: Thanks for letting me know about the save corruption. Guess I'll have to get the patch issue sorted out. Unless...

That's why I was wondering whether I would still need to patch the game even if I installed Shivering Isles. I take it that the answer is yes? The phrasing Sandmann pointed out ("You do not need to install this patch" rather than simply "Do not install this patch") had led me to believe that SI includes the patch for Oblivion, and that the patch for SI simply fixed problems in SI. I.e.:

Installing Oblivion + SI = Oblivion v1.2 + SI v1.0
Adding the SI patch = Oblivion v1.2 + SI v1.2

rather than

Installing Oblivion + SI = [Oblivion + SI] v1.0
Adding the SI patch = [Oblivion + SI] v1.2

...and if the former was the case, it seems like Nehrim shouldn't experience problems if SI is installed, regardless of whether you've installed the SI patch.
SI does NOT fix the problems of Oblivion. So if you have Oblivion without the SI you need the Oblivion patch, but if you have Oblivion with SI you still need the SI patch.
All right, thank you for the information.

I installed Oblivion on another computer and patched it there and am in the process of copying it to this one as we speak. Hopefully, this will work (I don't think the patch should change registry entries or anything else outside the Oblivion folder, but I'm not sure).

Edit: Success! Patched version has been copied, and everything seems to be in working order. Thanks for the help, will start downloading Nehrim shortly. (I'm very much looking forward to it; I've heard lots of good things about it and that it feels like a mix between the Gothics and Morrowind, which sounds wonderful.)
