Been playing Nehrim the last couple weeks after discovering it on a recommendation, must say this is a really great effort, hope the team gets to make some money from similar things in the future if they so wish :)

I have one problem though :(

So I installed Patch 1.1.1.1 today and was set to play, but turns out I have some major performance issues suddenly :( Nehrim has been running strangely, compared to normal Oblivion, but I figured it was just due to the new scripts and such. But the location I'm at now is apparently horrible for performance... It runs fine if I do nothing but just run about, but as soon as I cast a spell or create any light effect, the game slows to a complete crawl. It becomes unplayable for the duration of this effect, and the moment I get attacked by monsters, light effects happen all the time.
This means that I cannot fight the monsters present there and I'm now at a dead end :| I thought at first it was related to other business, but it's not. I tried teleporting away and casting spells/create lights, it worked fine, no problem. I waited at the location and cast spells, still the problem. I teleported away, waited there and came back during a different weather, and it still didn't help. No idea what to do here... just stuck now :| no idea if this patch was the problem or if it's something else... I was not at this location till now.
Location in question is this:

Anyone experience this problem or know how to fix it? :S
This is a known issue since version 1.0.0.0. It hsa nothing to do with the patches. Still nobody was able to figure it out yet (except that we now apparently know that it comes from speedtree).

Turning off Distant Land in the Dark Forest solves it, though. I think it's written in the readme.
Ah, thanks for the reply. I'll try that out. Don't think I've ever seen a readme that ever contained updated information though, so I just skip them :p but maybe that's because I didn't consider this a mod as much as a standalone game :)
In the Dark Forest I found that the FPS problem was caused by the 'Ghost Horseman' (or whatever he's called) - that guy and the horse who are covered in flames. Kill him and your FPS returns to normal.
If you can't find him, when the FPS drops, just go to the console and type KILLALL (no space) and it will kill all the AI in the currently loaded area. If you CAN find him, open the console, click on him with your mouse, and type KILL
It's not just him. All light effects are buggy in the DF.
Has anyone noticed similar FPS drops around the crater area? On my game I also have to turn distant lands off in that area when light producing spells are on-screen.

i did, i hated to turn off LOD rendering, but it had to be done. after i kill everything then i turn it back on though.
Hi.

Not going to start separate thread unless this helps anyone else improve there FPS.
Actually I fell quite dumb for not doing this a couple of months ago  , since trying to improve FPS just a bit, tried everything. For years ever since "look outside the box" trite came along, I've always said make sure you know what's inside the box first. Then I went against everything I said.

Long story short, nice new win 64 os install, did not think to adjust computer performance in advanced system settings to "for best performance", gained between 7 to 10 fps. :D

Hope this might help someone else.
