Hello everyone,
I was ending one part of a side quest in Chapter 1, which dealt with a mine in the middle of the road and entering the nearby coach on the training ground area to investigate its owner. After I had resolved that issue, I exited the coach I decided to explore the sewer entrance that was on the Tournament Grounds. I made sure to save right before entering, and upon entering I was auto-saved. After perhaps 5 minutes into the sewer I got killed from carelessness, and upon being presented with the "Continue from last save" option, I accepted and oblivion crashed immediately. I wasn't too worried, since every so often I've experienced crashes before, but upon opening up Nehrim again, and clicking to continuing from the last save point, Oblivion crashed again without even a loading screen. I then tried my regular save outside the sewers, but that too crashed without even a loading screen. I tried restarting and shutting down my computer for a bit, but neither worked.
I found I could still load up new game files, and if I tried to load my older save within a new game character, I'd get a loading screen, but once it reached the end of the load or right before, it would again crash.
Nehrim has never done this to me before, and unlike in one instance about 1 hour into my game it crashed and said the save was corrupt, in these recent cases it has not. I'm just not sure what is wrong and why it is affecting my saves the way it is. Does anyone know what could be causing this sudden problem? The save and auto-save were my only two saves about 17 hours in, so I really want to have everything work out. If it helps, I am running Oblivion from the Steam version.
Thank you for your time.

Try the suggestions made here:

Some of the things mentioned there solved the problem you have for other users.
And please upload some saves so they can be tested on another pc.

Here is the save file: http://www.mediafire.com/?98kr3q2c9gqzbvl
I tried everything that was suggested in the link you provided, but unfortunately nothing worked. I am currently doing a complete reinstall of Nehrim and I will report back whether this will allow my save to play or not. In any case, thanks for the help.

I just completely reinstalled Nehrim; no luck. The save keeps crashing. Quite disheartening; I had wonderful gear and had managed to beat some dungeons that for my level I really shouldn't have been able to, namely when I manged to beat the one that had the undead with the three brothers wielding lightforged weapons when I was level 7-8. In the future, is there a way to ensure that my saves won't have this happen? Should I save multiple times, or back up my saves in another folder? Would it even matter if something like this happens again? If nothing more, I'd like to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.
I suppose I should be happy I only spent 17 hours in the game before this happened; while it's a lot, I can't help but wince at the thought of losing whole days of saved time.
If something like this happened to me on most any other game, I would quit playing it just because having to replay so much time to get back kills my passion. But Nehrim is worth it. I have to say that the 17 hours I spent playing it were some of the most fun I've had in a long time with the thrill of dungeon-diving, gathering wonderful loot, questing, and just plain enjoying the environment provided. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
In any case, I'll wait and see if the save is unplayable for anyone else, and on what could be done in the future to prevent the loss of saved files.

I will try your save when I'm back home unless someone else has done so by then.
You definitely should save often. I quicksave very often, but even more important is to do regular saves quite often. When the amount of saves in my save-folder gets too high (200+) I cut out the older ones, leaving only the 50 most recent saves in the folder.
By the way, did you patch Oblivion to the correct version before you installed Nehrim?

This evening I started essentially replaying what I had done, though this time around I of course had a better idea of what to do. I'm roughly 1/2 of what I had accomplished before, and during my second play-though I've been saving quite often and even backing up my saves in a separate folder after my play sessions. Hopefully if anything similar happens, I'll be prepared and won't lose so much time.
I'm quite sure Oblivion was patched to 1.2.0416, as I downloaded the patch and used the launcher to set it up before installing Nehrim, even though Steam is supposed to patch the game I wasn't sure if it had so I tried anyway, and I remember being told it already had the latest patch installed.
If you or anyone else reports being unable to play my save then I suppose it's dead for good. I'll make sure I do something similar to your 200-cut to 50 saves plan. Thanks for your time and effort to help me, I quite appreciate it!

I can't play your save either. If you had a backlog of saves, we could try figuring out at which point it got corrupted...
Unfortunately, at the time I had only one save aside from my auto=save; I would keep overwriting my regular save. Opps! I couldn't even say at what point it could have been corrupted; I hadn't needed to restart Nehrim or even reload from dying for a good while before the incident.
Well lesson learned about saving on my part. I'll just make sure I save often and not overwrite anything. Roland Deschain gave good advice on saving, and I intend to do what he's done. I do thank you both for the help, it was nice to get responses to the problem.
I'm still having great fun the second run through, and now that I know my save is just plain unplayable, I can let that rest. Again, thank you both for the support with this matter.
