Steam version crashes right after I create my character - by conley

I used a clean install of Oblivion from Steam (deleted and redownloaded everything), and I only activated the three Nehrim files using the Steam game launcher. I launch the game and it works fine. I start a new game, and customize my character. However, once I click "Done" and confirm my race, the game crashes. Every single time.

This might be due to a file conflict, where the Steam version of Oblivion has a file in /Steam/steamapps/common/oblivion/Data/Music/Dungeon named 'Dungeon_01_v2.mp3', whereas Nehrim has a folder named 'Dungeon_01_v2.mp3', which contains the file 'Dungeon_01_v2.mp3'. My solution was to delete the Oblivion file, so there was no conflict.

Please help!

I don't think Nehrim has a FOLDER named Dungeon_01_v2.mp3. Something must have gone wrong during your installation.

I wondered if my install wasn't corrupted, actually (it was the torrent version). So I went to filefront and downloaded that version. It's the same. Can anyone check on the existence of the folder?

I don't have such a folder in Data\Music. Where do you have it?

The folder contains the file of the same name. I've tried deleting the folder and keeping the file, as well as keeping the folder and file. I installed Nehrim files on the desktop but I have UAC turned off, so it shouldn't make a difference anyways. I will check the sha1 and md5 sums when I get home, but I doubt that's the problem considering the fact that I've downloaded two installers that exhibit the same behavior. Then again, maybe the torrent version is messed up, and the Fileplanet version is just a rehost of the torrent version.

There is a /Data/Music/Dungeon/Dungeon_01_v2.mp3 in the German Nehrim Version.
It is a 2.452.585 Byte mp3 file, it is identical to the one in my Oblivion installation (UK GOTY).

Maybe the result of an Installer hickup?

Probably. The sha1sum of the english installer I have is be78743ad9391e3a741ced11a769afd2ee906aac

Can anyone confirm this as correct? If it is, we can start looking elsewhere. Hopefully the sha1sum is wrong, and it was just a bad version of the installer...

You have the right checksum.

You have proven that can use a checksum generator.

Are you feeling lucky today? Then take a look at the "[WIP] Automated testing of your Nehrim installation" thread.
This might help to identify the problem and it was this thread was the final straw that ticked me so far off that I actually worked on a more automated solution to the problem.

Oh, since you are using Steam the oblivon.exe and maybe some dll will have another checksum.

I had the same problem with that folder, so I just told it to delete the folder (didn't know what the hell else to do). One install earlier, I believe it did not include the folder (didn't ask me what to do with my copy), but I didn't get any useful statistics that time because the windows filenames are absolutely retarded.

I think it has something to do with either Windows 7, 64 bit, Steam, or a combination of the three. Any ideas?

EDIT: However, it looks like it wants the folder to be there, so I put the folder back. Here's the updated checksum:
