~1 less point of Magicka to cast spells per ~10-20 levels (of Elementism for example) seems really, really bad for Mages.

Warriors get more damage and armour for every level they put into their respective skills...

I feel that there's no feeling of progression in power level when you're leveling skills as a Mage. I might as well put all my skill points into armour instead?
Have you tried using more powerful spell versions? I think mages are actually very powerful, mana cost and mana regen comes mostly from gear, their power comes from memory perks, for example, with the relevant perks you can kill almost any undead with 2 fireballs (lvl III).

Yes but this doesn't solve the problem of leveling skills being useless?

Hi!

I don't know your playing style, but honestly, playing mage myself, I can only think that you are only feeling this if:

- You did not acquire powerful spells
- You are not using good gear
- You did not invest enough in your magic capabilities

Can you, just for the sake of the presentation here, show as a reply all your gear, spells and stats?

Regards!

I'm using level 5 or 6 fireball and just about 1 shot the late enemys. So only issue is mana, but the focus skill and some potions resolves that + what the cloths and accessories gives.
With my playthrough, Elemental spells are way more powerful than skyrim

I can provide you with this but it seems unnecessary. I think you have misunderstood my feedback.

I am not saying magick is too weak. I am saying that their is no point leveling magick skills because it does not help anywhere near as much as leveling other things such as armour.

My spells are all level II elemental spells.

I'm around ~lvl 20

My gear is Keepers robes mixed with rings and other items that all up reduce the cost of Elemental spells by 40%

Well, I can attest that leveling up magical abilities, such as Elementarism does help a LOT at higher levels, as it reduces the cost of casting significantly (even more so if associated with appropriate gear).

Still, what would you suggest? Instead of reducing the cost, a level up would increase the power?

Either a small increase in the damage of spells per level (seems to make the most sense) or a more significant reduction in the magicka required to cast them or both.

A small increase in damage per level would be good so that a level 70 caster in Elementalism wasn't doing the same damage as a level 20 caster with the same spells.

That way gaining levels in Elementalism would actually feel worthwhile rather than just dumping all points into armour and looking for better spells (because 2 less magicka drain per second is not worth like 20 skill-points and thousands of gold).
