Hi there, im having strange performance issues with Nehrim. I had bearable performance in the beginning (20-30 fps) and now i just got outside and down the hill and started to rain and im down to 12fps.
I have turned off various options in the launcher and at most get 1-2fps gain. i put the resolution to 800x600 (from 1680x1050) and its still 12fps. Any resolution i try its still 12fps.
CPU usage is around 30-40% on 2 cores and hardly anything on the other 2 cores, and GPUz says my GPU is at 30% load. Its virtually doing nothing and my performance is poor. is there anything i can do to make this better? my specs: -
Win7 64bit
4gb ocz DDr2
phenom x4 9750 @ 2.5Ghz
Ati HD4870 512mb
onboard sound
Oblivion GOTY
Nehrim with no mods

reduced the view distance for actors, objects and all to half. Seems to have given me a bit more fps but any solutions or tips would be helpful.
Hi.
There are some long, long threads on performance around the forum. See if there is any help there.
Also try turning textures to small and/or screen effects off. This game using the Oblivion engine and some really excellent textures means it can use a lot of video ram.
You could try turning distant land off, but that really affects the way the game looks.
Hope you find some ideas in other threads or someone helps in this one.

First I have to say that it is a remarkable piece of work, the world's design is simply amazing - especially if you had to design it from your own imaginations rather than a random land generator ala Far Cry 2.
I feel that the fact is that Nehrim is just too demanding of the poor old 5 years old Gamebryo engine. Modern PC's should own this old engine and be able to run it on it's maximum settings with no problems whatsoever - as i'm sure you all do on Oblivion.
But the team has added so much stuff to the game that the engine just can't cope - especially true at that 1st town where you take your childhood dagger to the blacksmith. Whereas in Oblivion, the town is a separate load, in Nehrim it is not, so the engine is running NPC AI for all the immediate forest area AND for the 20+ NPC's wandering around the town.
I would disagree about the texturing, especially of the rocks and pathways, they are horrible, blurry, grainy and coarse. What are they 256x256 ? Go and look at the rocks on the tiny island where you retrieve your dagger from.
I wish I had the nerve to try and install one of the 2048x2048 texture packs, but Nehrim seems overly sensitive to addons, and given that the engine is already stretched to breaking point......
Is it true that Nehrim uses oblivion.ini in your MYGAMES folder, rather than it's own Nehrimdefault.ini ??
I spent an hour tinkering around with my NehrimDefault.ini and wondered why it made no difference. So I guess I am going to have to try again.
We definitely need a STICKY posting of recommended INI settings for each PC (ie 2Gb machines sue this, 4Gb machines use this etc etc, in the English settings.

I turned off the distance landscape and it works better now, it pains me to say. The distance landscape looked great, and i agree that they have done a fantastic job with Nehrim and that for me it does alot of things that i thought Oblivion should have done in the first place. But still i think the engine is limiting the performance.
Im still getting erratic fps, got to stonefield at night last night and as i walked to the entrance i went down to 6fps! I dont want to turn many more settings down else it will start to look like morrowind.

Hi.
Maybe my eyes are bad.
Click pic for full size. Then again, a major ammount of textures and meshes are still Oblivions, though I was talking about Armour/ weapons made specifically for game along with other bits and pieces, special effects etc.
The towns being open do slow the fps down, but at the same time make for a better gaming experience,
Have seen people with lesser spec pc's than mine (mine only runs on 9800gt sli'd) getting better fps.
Also I believe if you have enough ram on your gpu's (1gb more than enough) have a go at the 2048 textures, just back your data up. Only saying this, because when I checked the sli bar, it showed no pressure on my gpus at all.
