a few problems to start off: the installer does not auto detect oblivion as said it would, I initially put it in a different folder, then had to put it in the same folder as oblivion.

the installation has a long startup: the first few tries i thought it crashed.

i finally got it installed, turned off all mods like it suggested, and made a new character. The new character fell into a pit, and there were missing bits everywhere: the big exclamation mark and yellow fields. The character was then stuck in the pit, unable to get out. Also there was a big yellow missing part on the character's waist, making it unpleasant to play should it worked anyway.

I uninstalled the mod, but it still haunts me: I can no longer play my oblivion as oblivion tries to load any save file into nehrim.

thanks for screwing up my game! now any suggestions how to get oblivion working back to normal, without reinstalling?
First off, i think your Nehrim, for what reasonever, UAC, broken download, broken Oblivion installation, did not install correctly. I didnt have any of the problems you discribe.

Second, if you would have read the quest discription, you would have been able to get out of the pit.

Uninstalling Nehrim is fairly easy. It installs in a different folder than Oblivion, and only shares the "My Games" folder, where it stores Savegames and .ini files. Maybe you have to recreate the Oblivion.ini, i cant think of more that Nehrim would do to prevent Oblivion from working.

Normally, yes it would be. but he forced it to install into the same directory as oblivion, overwriting oblivion's assets with nehrim's.

@OP: I am sorry you had trouble with it. It is unfortunate that you installed it into the oblivion directory. It is not meant to go there, this isn't a mod it is a total conversion. Like how the original Counter Strike was a total conversion of half life. A total conversion is where all the game's assets are discarded and replaced with new data. Nehrim uses the exe, dll files, and shaders of oblivion. But everything else is new content.

As far as being unable to move in the pit... you must have clicked through it too fast, but you were basically told "equip a torch"; its also in your journal. You are unable to move until doing so.
Gamma settings might be such that you can see something, but you should be in total darkness and thus not keen to start running when you can't see anything.

If you don't mind answering:
1. What folder is oblivion installed into?
2. What is your OS?
3. Is UAC on?
4. Are you an administrator?

On the first run, it performs one time tasks that take some time. Getting impatient, deciding it crashed, and terminating it could potentially corrupt the install. You should just walk away for a few minutes and let it finish. It will only do that the first time.
hey thank you for reading my post. I hope my abruptness did not come off as rude, and if so, sorry.

I can play normal oblivion again, I deleted the Nehrimdata.esp, and Nehrim in my oblivion folder.

my OS is Vista, yes piece of crap OS... i am admin yes. I installed oblivion into C:Betheseda\Oblivion, so no probs with security. I initially tried installing nehrim into E:Nehrim, but it kept saying 'can't find oblivion.exe' I tried C:\Nehrim, and same prob, it seemed to have kept wanting me to install into same folder as oblivion.

The installation into C:\bethesda/oblivion did work, but there were missing parts everywhere, I cuoldnt tell what was going on, too many yellow fields and exclamation points. This definitely suggests corruption somewhere, or incompatibility.
that is very odd. since you installed oblivion in C:\Betheseda\Oblivion security on program files and UAC should not have been an issue. Even odder that it tried to default into installing into the oblivion folder, it shouldn't do that.

have you upgraded or reinstalled windows since you originally installed oblivion? maybe its missing the registry entries or some such.
i also wanted to ask, if any sort of modding is compatible, as i beleive in the readme it told to turn all mods off.

i find the oblivion stock 3rd person cam very dizzying and nauseating, so i used the 3rDPersonChase cam mod which has no acceleration. Also texture and model mods that dont require .esp or .esm , are they ok?
i keep up with updates on windows yes. i defrag'd my hdd yesterday, maybe some of the corrupted textures will disappera. attempting to reinstall again.
broadly speaking, oblivion mods would just not work nehrim.
Nehrim itself contains modifications to most of the content anyways, textures are new, leveling is XP based, and many other changes.

PS. OP, is your oblivion version v1.2.0416 ?
Can you try reinstalling oblivion (you don't have to delete current install, make a copy of it, and use it to replace your oblivion directory when done).

so:
1. copy oblivion directory as a whole (call it "oblivion backup" or some such).
2. uninstall oblivion
3. install oblivion, expansion, and patch v1.2.0416
4. install nehrim, using this guide: http://www.sureai.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=4448
5. copy the content of oblivion backup to your current oblivion install directory, overwriting everything.

Do all of the above logged in as an administrator with UAC disabled (you have to restart the computer after disabling it for it to apply).
3. You can skip the expansion, its not needed.

There are very few MODs that work for Nehrim without changes, almost any MOD requires changes of some sort. You can ask here in the Forum, if someone wants to convert your MOD if you dont know how. If its interesting, surely someone will be found. I know we have a 3rd Person Camera MOD inthe german section, i dont know about the english one tho.

This is strange. "Can't find oblivion.exe" SHOULD have nothing to do with the destination folder of your install, but should be due to the source folder of your install not containing an "oblivion.exe". Maybe I have royally messed this up in the English installer script. I'll look into it when I am back home.
