Learning skills
Post by riven213 »
Hello, I'm new to Nehrim and I must say I'm extremely impressed by this mod!
A noob question: is skill learning always so expensive ? I'm right of at the beginning of the game, and at the abbey there is a hunter who can sell books of hunting skills for about 900 gold each. It's a lot on this stage of the game. I have about 24 learning points and would like to use them. Since my aim is to create a hunter/rouge character, hunter skills are what I would like to obtain. Should I expect to find a cheaper teacher or is that it?

Thanks for help
hunting skills are quite expensive in the beginning, that's right.
in the beginning you probably should find ways to make money by exploring dungeons and selling items.
alchemy is also a great way to earn some money.

afaik there are no cheaper teachers for hunting skills.

as for alchemy - what is the best place to start learning it so that I can make some basic stuff to sell?

I have played sneak/archer - mage/archer because I enjoy playing that type of character. I believe the bows/marksman is much better balanced than Oblivion. The point I was going to make is the books are not worth the 2 lp or cost at the beginning of the game nor really later on because the selling price of what you harvest of the animals is not really that good. Great for alchemy since they all weigh 0.
Both times I've played archer I've invested my lp straight away into marksman with the trainer at tirin abbey inn. And by the way there are no other skill books apart from a few which up lp by 1.

For alchemy, not far from Tirin Abbey is merchant with mortar and pestle. Ingredients are everywhere.

I did find one skill book on the shelves in the steel mine dungeon by the forge. From memory it upped my alteration by 1

On the road from Tirin abbey to Gilliad/Sanctum, merchant named Marius or something like that. He only has the mortar and pestle. If you are not averse to a bit of thievery, wait until the sanctum for full set.
If you do a lot of dungeon crawling you will find various alchemical equipment and later on in the game can buy better stuff journeyman/master. Ingredients grow everywhere and can be bought from most merchants/inns. Lots of fields arround with wheat/corn etc. Plants usually grow back in 4 days.

One thing to note on respawns. You must stay out of an area completely for four days before it will respawn the reagents. If you pass through an area, even without picking anything, the counter starts over at 0.
