So when a "trip" action occurs, such as rocks falling in the starting cave, or when I block sometimes, the screen freezes but the game continues to play. I can still pause and unpause the game, and I can hear myself running around and attacking creatures. I can even save it when the screen is freezing, since only the start menu still pops up fine. When I save it in a frozen state, exit the game to desktop, then load the "frozen" game, it is magically unfrozen.

If this happened every once in a while I wouldn't mind but it is happening almost every 45 seconds or so that I'm advancing through the starting cave. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, as well as take away all other mods. Does anyone know what is going on?

Do not know what is happening, but can give a couple of tips which might help. In the settings part of Nehrim launcher try preloading some memory. You can preload upto 2gb depending on your system and how much ram you have. Also try turning off the autosave function which can be turned off in your diary in the inventory.

IIRC some people had success with switching off antialiasing and HDR.
