Everything goes up into flames, the intro ends... then the screen goes to black and a dialogue begins. The audio is still on, and the screen is black but after a few moments the game freezes and does not respond.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I'd really love to get past the intro and play this game!

I have the same issue. It's more of a loading issue, it happens in the opening load as well (client freezes for about a minute), but it continued from there on. Once the intro finished, the same thing happened, only the audio had already started playing (client was still frozen, sound/dialogue was stuttering). I waited for about a minute, but no dice; just stuttering audio.

Install was done properly, on a clean Skyrim install (installed the game particularly for Enderal) and the game is fully updated. Tried out two downloaded packages (one downloaded via browser, the other via torrent) on two clean Skyrim installs.

Any help would be appreciated and if anyone has any ideas, let me know if I can provide any more information.

Are you all trying to play the game in windowed mode? I ran into the same issue on my system, fresh install of Skyrim + Enderal, and came here looking for a solution. This thread has the answer. Put the game into fullscreen mode. Fixed the issue for me.

There was an error launching the game but somehow it resolved itself while I was fiddling around with tutorials around the fixing the error so I have no idea what happened there.

Oh bloody hell, you're right, the option was grayed out in Settings and I didn't notice it. Would explain why FRAPS video slows down performance so much as well.

Regardless, I played a bit before I saw your post and today's patch fixed the problem for me even in Windowed.
