I'm getting a recurring crash when I have to prompt the mages into attacking. Immediately as Morten says "Hit the deck!" it crashes. Every time.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I'd love to get started with this story already...

Nehrim crashes quite a bit. For me it often crashes when there is a loading screen passing through a door or upon waiting/sleeping. You should save often, including normal saves in case your quick save gets bugged. My suggestion is to load an earlier save. If that doesn't work, another alternative is to go to http://nehrim.wikia.com and search for the console command that will set that stage as completed.
