So I left the mine, broke the siege on the encampment, and completed the quests I could find in the starting town. That got me to level 4. So then I decided I would move on to the next town, Giliad. I picked up a quest from there, and as soon as I leave town, I get attacked by a giant spider which takes off a third of my health in one hit. So then I ran away and decided I should level up more in the starting town first. But I can't find any more quests or anything to do really.

So is most of the leveling done through kill xp from dungeon diving? I can't really figure out what to do at this point. No quests left where I am, and the creatures are too strong in the next zone.

Hi, I really don't know what to advise you. I always find beginning a bit difficult, especially that you do not have all alchemy equipment to brew some basic health potions ( a lot of them are made thanks to Hunting Skills).

1. As far as I noticed, levelling is not that important as your skill upgrades. If you're not an archer, I would advise going to Arcane Sanctum-almost all instructors there and you can steal some alchemy eq I guess. If you're an archer, upgrade your skill at Maius Merchant Camp.

2. Killing is the fastest way to level up. Take a look at the map here (http://map.planetoblivion.de/component/ ... Itemid,42/) zoom in for Arbein Tirin(Tirin Abbey) (press Spoiler on the left) and just see how many explorable dungeons you missed in the starter area.

3. Diseased Deer are real killers. Avoid them:P

4. Maybe try finishing Search for my Roots or The Robber's Nest in Stonefield?

Thanks, I hadn't even found Stonefield. As soon as I finished my quests in the Tirin town, my next quest told me to go to the Arcane Sanctum and that Giliad was on the way. So I just figured Giliad was the next town to go to. Hopefully I can get a few levels in Stonefield and be more ready for Giliad. Thanks again for the help

I'm still not sure if the quest (the robber's nest) in Stonefield will be suitable for your level.

1.Have you spent all your learning points on damage/protection upgrades?
2. In Tirin Abbey, you should also get a side quest- Search for my Roots (in the chest in the abbey). But finally it will lead you to Stonefiled and Ledur.
3. You mentioned you got nearly killed by a giant spider, well, they are pretty rare, but if you come across them, they are quite deadly. I guess you shouldn't get discouraged by one Tarantula The road to Arcane Sanctum is not so dangerous.
4. Personally, I always head towards Sanctum first (even if it means running a lot form enemies;p) because there you can buy :
-stronger healing spells
- paralyse spell ( REALLY helpful, you probably remember what the spider did to you;p)
-light spell ( a must-have for exploring dungeons).
5. When you were in Giliad, have you noticed a board with Waned Quests? You can try some bounty quests.

I'm still not sure if the quest (the robber's nest) in Stonefield will be suitable for your level.
I just finished it. I got really nice shiny armor from the dead traitors

Actually I spent all my learning points on restoration because it was really powerful in Oblivion. Should I be spending it on things like heavy armor instead?

Yeah, that's the quest I picked up. Then when I was on my way to kill the wanted guy, the giant spider attacked me

I'm level 5 now. Maybe I'll just run to Arcane Sanctum, get those nice spells, and see if I'm strong enough to quest in Giliad.

Just to answer your second question quickly.
In Nehrim, skills do not upgrade as fast as in Oblivion ( by training them). Skill upgrade happens mainly by buying upgrades from trainers. Of course, from time to time you will get a message 'Your Heavy Armor has increased' but not as often as you would get in Oblivion.
That's a difficult question with restoration. I used only spells that restored hp from Restoration list and it wasn't that useful,as you will really make plenty of Health Potions once you've started making your own potions ( a lot of ingredients for HP potions are dropped from creatures when you have Hunting Skills). If you are a melee fighter than I would definitely suggest upgrading weapon damage and heavy armor. At least at the beginning of the game, to make fights more bearable

Yeah I just noticed how easy health potions are to make. I just got a mortar and pestle from Marius and turned all of my ingredients into potions so I could make some money. I ended up with 50 health potions. They were much less common in Oblivion. I guess I'll start focusing on heavy armor now.

By the way, this is off topic, but is there a good place to report bugs? I noticed in that Stonefield quest that if you killed the main traitor with arrows, the quest would not update after you killed him and there was no key on his corpse. Also, after I killed him from far away with arrows, I went to loot his corpse and his corpse talked to me as if it were alive. Then I reloaded a previous save and killed him with a sword and everything was fine.

Edit: This is a complete guess, but I think maybe the reason the quest wouldn't update is because he says something to you when you go up to him to kill him. When I killed him with arrows, he never got the chance to say what he had to say to me because I was too far away. Maybe this had something to do with screwing up the quest update?

Levelling: I went through a couple of mines/forts/etc between Sanctum and Giliad going cross country, got to level 11 and I'm a lousy player.
Couldn't beat the ghost in the Erothin burial chamber. But the trail East from Sanctum has easy kills.

The diseased deer! How to cure oneself? Hard to find cure disease potion, and expensive.
