Missing Textures and other questions - by vecuccio

When I play I get alot of pink coloured (ie missing) textures. All the human characters in the mines at the start have pink arm and torso skins, and when I exit the mines, there are large areas of either grass or rock that are bright pink and textureless. This is as far as i've gone into the game so far, so I don't know how much more missing textures there will be ?

Also, is it possible to run this Mod with any of the many high definition texture packs, model packs, tree packs etc etc ?
The (non missing) textures included in the game are (probably for reasons of making as small a download as possible) quite blurry and horrible.

Hi.

Quite honestly, if you look at some peoples screenshots, the textures in game (especially armour etc) are a lot better than you eill see in Oblivion.

Your texture problems could be down to corrupted texture files or some ingame settings. Have you tried copying Texture (bsa) data from Oblivion to Nehrim.
Other texture packs (as long as they do not affect world space) can be used, seen somewhere people using Qarls textures, installed to Nehrim directory.

Thanks for the reply.
I am wondering if the 'pink' represents some kind of missing light map ? Because it isn't like your normal missing texture - ie nothing, the actual detail of the texture is full visible (ie gravel stones etc) but it just happens to be tinted pink.

Also there are alot of wood textures that are VERY VERY dark black, the detail is just about viewable. So I was wondering if this is HDR related ? So I turned HDR off and it made no difference.

Please see screenshot (outside the Happy wotsit mine (the 1st one you come too after exiting the start mine), this is with HDR off.
All other settings are set to their absolute maximum (just as they are in my pimped out Oblivion installation).

Any ideas what the pink and black represent ?

Did you do some BSA alteration back in your Oblivion times?
Because Nehrim copies your Oblivion BSAs along with installing its own. If your Oblivion BSAs are not what Nehrim expects them to be, you get errors liek this.

Hi.

Did you already have texture mods installed for Oblivion that needed Oblivion to be the master? Is/are they still ticked to load?

Anyway - Black textures are normally missing normal maps and pink usually where game cannot find textures.
Try copying over textures-compressed.bsa (maybe even meshes.bsa) from oblivion to Nehrim.

Before running Nehrim, I used the Oblivion Mod Manager to disable all addon packs.

Here is a screenshot of *.bsa from my main Elder Scrolls folder. Does anything look like a BSA that would cause a clash ?

Hi.

Its what is in your Nehrim folder that is important here and what you might have ticked in Nehrim Launcher.
Oblivion meshes, misc, textures, sounds should be in Nehrim folder as well (they are copied over during installation. Sometimes when installing Nehrim and data(.bsa) are copied over, they can become corrupt, which is why I first advised to copy texture.bsa from Oblivion and overwrite the one in Nehrim.

If all else fails, save you savegames somewhere, uninstall completely (meaning ini file as well etc) and reinstall.

Unless someome else has any ideas!!!!

Here's *.bsa from my Nehrim folder. What is the exact filename you recommend me copying over from the Elder Scrolls folder ?

Is 'Oblivion - Textures - Compressed' not the default Oblivion file then ? Is it one that came from one of my hi-res texture pack addons ? Because the 2 files in Oblivion and Nehrim appear to be the same.

Hi.

Oblivion-textures-compressed.

Hi.

Add on to post above. If none of that helps and no one else has any input yet. Try using Archiveinvalidation and/or BSA alteration. ArchiveInvalidation- use OBMM, alteration you might need to google as I have never used it.

I did a complete re-install.

I ran it without and then with the 1.0.9.1 patch, and the problem still exists in both cases.
I also tried copying over the 'Oblivion - Textures - Compressed' BSA file, still the same problem.
The launcher is configured to use 3 data files - Nehrim.esm, NehrimData.esp, and NehrimEnglish.esp. Before I reinstalled it I am sure there were more than that listed, including oblivion.esm(or esp).

I have an ATI-Radeon 4650HD card with 1gb (latest drivers from 23rd Jan 2011 installed) - CCC is NOT installed, I am using AtiTrayTools with access to CCC set to OFF, and running on XP64 with 4gb RAM.

EDIT - just saw your post on archive invalidation. Anyone have any idea how to use that feature ? I don't want to wreck my main Oblivion game by not knowing what I am doing.

Did you also reinstall your Oblivion?

Hi.

Start OBMM, ensure only Nehrim data files ticked, utilities, archive invalidation. BSA redirection is most likely selected - change BSA alteration, select file types Textures and update now.
Could I suppose first try updating BSA redirection first, it should show if any files changed any hash collisions etc. What this should hopefully do is point the game towards the correct location of the textures.

Anybody else out there want to contribute anything here???

edit:: good point @arvisrend. Sometimes I'm like a bull in a china shop

I tried all the stuff with Oblivion Mod Manager, unfortunately it didn't work. So I knew I had to do the difficult thing - seeing as it won't let you install 2 copies of Oblivion on your HD, I had to uninstall it and do a vanilla install.

As you can see from the screenshot, all is now working.

Thanks to everyone for their time, and suggestions.

Hi.

Pleased you have it up and running.
Not to confuse things, but:
seeing as it won't let you install 2 copies of Oblivion on your HD
Have myself 2 x oblivion and 3 x Nehrim up and running on same pc.

p.s New patch should be out very soon, so I am led to believe.
All times are UTC+02:00
