I'm not sure if it is a bug but it is normal that Nehrim won't let you have a class? I got only the birthsign and somewhere I read that somebody has the paladin class so I thought that could be a problem with my game.

I don't have a class either, nor do I remember the option of gaining one at any point through the game thus far.

Yep, class and birthsign is the same i think. But its nothing more than some minor spells. Real classes dont exist in Nehrim, your class evolves from your Weapon choice.
