Early game levels (possible minor spoilers) - by Akabroth

i'm still getting my head on straight about this mod, i'm getting the idea i'm under leveled so far.

first off, no matter what game i play, if given the option, i always go pure mage.

second off, i'm level six (nearly seven) and i just got kim to the sanctum, i have been running around in an area that says it's for people level 7-14, i got to the sanctum at level 4. so far the MQs have been fairly manageable, but some of the random encounters seem much harder than they should (taking way too long to die, having to down potion after potion just to keep casting spells.

third (probably most importantly), i prefer to work on one thing at a time, it i start one quest/quest-chain i want to finish it before i do anything else. that includes the main quest, so i've done very few side quests. i also don't care for dungeon crawling, unless i have a quest to go in the place, or something about it intrigued me.

essentially i'm asking for other peoples opinions on whether or not i should do more side stuff and level before continuing the MQ, or whether it should get easier from here on just focusing on the MQ.

on another note, is there a way to speed up the horrifically slow speed of arrows and target spells? i know how to make a mod for it for oblivion without any problem, but i get the idea that even some of the more simple mods need... extra changes/work/etc. to work with nehrim.

Hi.
My opinion of course, others might think differently.

Oh. First I also like to try pure mage but I do also throw my marksman/bow skill up as it seems to help keep me alive.

You have got to the sanktum and Kim at quite a lowish level. The couple of times I have played reached the sanktum at about level 7. Did finish MQ first time at level 27 but had 100% sneak that time.
Dungeon crawling I can quite understand your point, but you will miss out on some decentish equipment which will help. Plus some of the dungeons in Nehrim are quite interesting.
It might be worth your while doing 1 or 2 just to knock level up a couple, although it does get a little easier later on unless you wander off into a high level zone.

Over speeding up bow/magic do not know of any mods, although there might be some. Would this type of mod need a master? If not it would work no problem.

Sorry went a way for awhile. Just checked TesNexus, saw a mod called arrow speed and damage adjustment, it just needs to have Nehrim added as master and then checked to make sure all arrows in game are included in esp. Might need more!!!! Just gave it a quick 2 minute check.

That's great and all but one thing to remember about being a pure mage is that you have to level up/be at a higher level to unlock the ability to cast higher level spells.
second off, i'm level six (nearly seven) and i just got kim to the sanctum, i have been running around in an area that says it's for people level 7-14, i got to the sanctum at level 4. so far the MQs have been fairly manageable, but some of the random encounters seem much harder than they should (taking way too long to die, having to down potion after potion just to keep casting spells.
One thing you may not have noticed and it threw me the first time too, is that the creatures/enemies do not level up in the "traditional" way in that they do not level up with you. What I mean to say is that, if you will notice, the areas (literally different parts of the map) have different levels and, as such, the creatures/enemies will be within the level range for their position on the map. So, you could be running along in a 7-14 range and go off the path cross-country and all of the sudden discover that you are in a level 20-25 area or something. That can make fights VERY difficult. In short, it is always good to pay attention to where you are and what level that area is. The game is alot more like the Gothic games in that regard than like Oblivion. There are times when you can wander into the wrong place, bite off way more than you can chew and get killed darn near instantly.
third (probably most importantly), i prefer to work on one thing at a time, it i start one quest/quest-chain i want to finish it before i do anything else. that includes the main quest, so i've done very few side quests. i also don't care for dungeon crawling, unless i have a quest to go in the place, or something about it intrigued me.
This, IMO, is a mistake - if for no other reason than the "leveled area" thing I mentioned above. There are certain points in the game where the devs will supply you with a pop-up note telling you that "you should be at least level X to complete this quest." Every time that happened for me I was happily above the recommended level but, if you aren't, you are going to need to head off in search of exp and better gear at that point anyway. I also like to complete one quest at a time but, with this game (IMO of course), you really, really should not consider the main quest like that. The main quest really should be stepped away from, at least from time to time. One of the minor complaints I have with the game is that with the exception of one or two obvious times, the devs did not give many OBVIOUS opportunities to step away and explore. The main quest flows well but if you aren't careful you can get caught up in it and miss most of the other great stuff until you are finished with the main quest. All of this is to say, take some breaks away from the main quest and explore.
All times are UTC
