I have searched endlessly, surveyed other threads about this, but cannot find the bloody Master Brewer. Does anyone have a direct location?

I take it you have already gone to Mahrnitz and spoken with their brewer correct? You are asking where to find him after that right? If so...

The location of the barrel the Master Brewer is trapped in is almost precisely due West of the town a Mahrnitz. It is the first river due W and the barrel is at the bottom of a waterfall (one without a dam, just a normal waterfall). There is no super easy way to get there from Mahrnitz. I think the easiest way to get to the correct spot is to head there from the Castle Darlan area. Just head N from Castle Darlen until you reach the river and then swim, until you meet up with the waterfall at precisely a line westward extending from Mahrnitz. Look down, over the waterfall and you should see the barrel.

Oh and btw, bring a pickaxe and shovel. I can't remember which it is you need but you will need one.

Recently I have visited Mahrnitz and spoken with their brewer, as part of the statue quest. The brewer did not have anything quest related to say. I do not have a Master Brewer quest, where is this quest found?
