Mian Quest-Line - The Vault Under Your Childhood Home - by Franklin

So I am at the point where you end up at the burned down village of your childhood home. You get the flashback and follow the mages to the door leading underground. You jump back to the present day. Go down the hole and work your way to the end of the underground vault.

At the end you can read 2 pieces of paper on the table. One of them updates the quest telling you how the bandits triggered the war.

At that point.. I get no new quest objectives. The quest I am on "ends" after reading the paper and no new quest is given.

If you then go around the corner, there is a door leading out that is locked and requires a key. I cannot find any key to get out that door in the dungeon so I left the way I came in.

Is that correct? If not, what did I miss? Should I have a new quest after reading those pieces of paper? If not, where should I head to next? Should I be able to unlock that door? If so, where did I miss finding the key?

It is correct. The quest ends there. I looked for at least 45 minutes for that key before becoming frustrated and finding the answer online. I have read that it was a storyline that was abandoned by the game authors. It is unfortunate because it looked to be an interesting storyline. While there is nothing more to it officially, if you want, I can let you know where to get the key and give you information about what other NPC's seemly were supposed to be part of the quest if it had been implemented. Just let me know if so. Other than that you can continue to explore Nehrim or head to the Arcane Sanctum. It's really up to you.

Edit to add: The game authors really, really should consider making an in-game note letting people know the quest is unfinished for now. It is very confusing for people. Having said that I also like the idea of it just ending there. I mean, it is completely unsatisfying but then life often is. The irritation comes from people not expecting that in an RPG. My 2 cents anyway.

Sure ;) I'd love the info on the key and other NPCs that would have been involved.

I also agree with you that a note letting players know the quest is over is a good thing. Since its one of the first things you get in game, I think many players will assume its an integral plotline that will go for awhile. When you read the note it implies there will be more coming because you have just learned this secret that is causing issues in the realm and in most RPGs that leads you, the hero, to go fix things. In this case, things seem to end. So even a note saying "This quest ends here for now. It is still under development" would help players get mental closure.

Agreed. The most irritating thing about it to me is not the "closure" aspect so much as the time wasted looking for something that doesn't exist. The key for instance. It exists but because the quest is not finished...well you get the point. We only have so much time with which to enjoy our gaming and I would rather not waste that time searching for something that isn't there.

As for the related NPC's and the key:
[+]
You need to find Castle Ledur. It is pretty much due N of Ledur (just a tad bit W) and not too far but it is pretty difficult to get to because it is up on clifftop and you have to find the path that leads to it. Once you get close to the undiscovered city/town map icon (it isn't a castle icon for some reason), search around the area and finding the path shouldn't be too much trouble IIRC. Be forewarned, if you have a lower level player char, it might be wise to search for it after you have leveled up a bit. I can't remember what the area's level range is but I think it is higher than that of Ledur. Anyway there is no hurry since you are not going to get any type of update or anything to the quest.

Also, make sure you have a good hard save before you take it on because you may want to consider just going there for fun to see who is there and what clues there are (nothing big) and then going back to the previous save. Reason I say that is because if they ever do finish the questline or even just add more to it and you have already run through Castle Ledur, it might preclude you from playing that part of the quest. Does that make any sense? I happened upon the Castle and went through it and only after I was much further along in the game did I consider that.

As for Specific NPC's and such, I will just let you "meet" them. Except for Nina (I think that is her name). The key that opens the door is called Nina's key and the funny thing about it is that she isn't even there. She is a vendor in Cahbaet if I am not mistaken - I am just recalling this from memory and it has been along while since I was at Castle Ledur. Again, there aren't many clues to be found or direct linkages so I don't want to get your hopes up but it is obvious that Castle Ledur was meant to be at least a bit connected to that quest. Last thing - once you find the key do not bother going all the way back to the cave under Ledur. Do a thorough search of the Castle and you will see why.

While I am at it, and I really don't want to spoil it for you but I feel obligated to warn you that there is one more questline that I have run across that is unfinished and will drive you crazy if you don't know about it ahead of time. It's the quest you will eventually get (if you choose to do it that is) from the scholar dude Gervasius in Erothin. The quest is definitely worth taking as you are able to advance a good way through it (and there is some good loot along they way) but, and write this down right now on a piece of paper, when you do your work for him and he gives you "the combination for the Nexus Hall in Treomar," don't bother trying to find the entrance to the Nexus Halls. It doesn't exist.

Hey,

Thanks a bunch for the info. I have just finished the first Gervasius quest, and was starting on the others. Nice to know what to (not) expect.
