For those who have completed the Steel Rail Mine Quest:

Being a Hand to Hand person, I personally had no use for the Axe of Insanity and didn't want to take any risks.

For those of you who did keep it, what are its side effects?

Nothing as of the latest patch, as far as I can tell. Its sitting in my safe chest and hasn't had any side effects.

I used it for quite some time, right before I stumbled on the Ghost Rider, and never had anything untoward happen. It was a very nice weapon for me when I got it, as I was using blunt until the Armageddon made me switch to blade.

I loved this weapon and used it for a long time until I eventually got a stronger blunt weapon. I too thought it might have side effects but I never noticed any.

Yeah, the game kind of misled the player on that one. I had assumed carrying it would cause magic zombies to randomly spawn at your location or something.

There is a mod in which you can bring the axe back to the Steel Rail MIne.
Currently it's only in German but I could ask Ayonbird, if I can translate it.

Leaing it in your savebox is a bad idea. As started in the quest, the Axe slowly manipules the area around it, over the course of several days. If you carry it around with you, always travelling, it wont cause much harm, but leaving it in the box will slowly kill the people around there.

Not sure if putting it in the fire was a good idea, in the Mastersmiths journal it said, the axe absorbed the heat, and the negative effects increased even more. But well, at least its down there where it cant harm anybodt:p

What if it blows up like the Southrealm? Poor Giliad doesn't stand a chance against level 45 Magic Contaminated Zombies!
