the motivation - by thebigJ_A

Hey all. I'm quite impressed with this game so far, and that got me wondering. Clearly alot of time and effort have gone into this, possibly nearly as much as went into Oblivion itself. What, exactly, do the modders get out of this? It's an achievement, sure, but a sense of accomplishment (well deserved, btw) doesn't pay the bills.

So, what's the motivation and ultimate goal?

Make the game Oblivion should have been, and slap Bethesda in the face

That's pretty funny. Oblivion sold millions and millions worldwide and still sells well today. I don't think Bethesda is worried about knowing how to make a game. Just because a vocal minority whine constantly about the game, doesn't change the fact that they bought the game and will buy the next one. At least you're amusing though, so feel good about yourself. :D

What I'm saying is Oblivion could have been much more than it is,Nehrim proves that
I'm not saying Oblivion wasn't succesful

Eh crpgnut, watch your tone.

For the motivation: SureAI used to make good mods all along the way, but they were not quite satisfied with all the outcomes. So they decided to make Nehrim "the" game. And with all due respect - it is.
There is no money earned with Nehrim at all, it's all for being awesome and the experience they got (well, and the reputation if you will...)

I can respect that.

Maybe Bethesda should hire these guys to work on the next TES game. They seem to know what's what.

sure it sold well, at first it was mostly because of hype and press, but now it still sells because of the modding community, the majority of people i know did not like oblivion after they bought it and were kind of pissed, bethesda have a reputation for buggy games with unispired storylines, its only after the modding community fixed things with it that it became a playable game.
