Performance problems - by Nico Kosonen

Hello!

I have some problems with performance, when i play this game. FPS drops below 20 if there is even a bit of stuff on the screen (like in the beginning when you come out of the mine and head down to the small human post). I have Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz prosessor, 4gb of ram and Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphic card. I tried to lower my settings down but it didn't help much, fps went up maybe few frames but it was still bad. Have any ideas what might be the reason for this?

EDIT: Some info.

I have a very similar set up to you, except i'm running 2 x Nvidia GT 9800's. I do have all graphic settings to the highest. Have same problem in some areas but on average get between 40 to 50+ fps. What seemed to help a little was preloading 2gb of ram in the settings. Also believe on some systems/games running in windowed mode might help the FPS.

It *could* be the footstep bug, present in Oblivion and unfortunately present in Nehrim.

Some sound cards (onboard, usually) can't handle the footsteps of certain creatures for some reason and it slows the game down to a crawl. The rats in the starter dungeon turned my game into a slideshow. Easy fix, go to the Oblivion .ini in your 'My Games' folder and find the line 'MaxFootstepDistance'. Reduce it to 0.000 and thats the end of that.

I remember having to do the same for Oblivion. Not saying it *is* that, but worth a try. I find missing the sound altogether has no gameplay effect and a dramatic FPS increase.

Love to help more, but after finding an average increase of 6 fps if using a non-native 1280 x 1024 resolution instead of 1920 x 1080. I wondered why my FPS was so low and have discovered one of my graphic cards is faulty. Desperately searching for an invoice !!!!!!

Something learned. Hardware not faulty. Drivers corrupted. If you think FPS too low etc ensure you download and update to latest drivers.

Hi!

I'll just post my problem here: My system isn't one of the newest(intel core2 duo, 3gb ram, mobility radeon hd3470) but it managed to run oblivion with 100+ mods quite well, but with nehrim it has some problems. When i have equipped highway thief armor and play in 3rd person the FSP drops from playable 20fps in first person to 10, which makes game quite laggy. So i did some snooping in the meshes bsa and ran it through PYFFI, which dropped the meshes size from 795mb to 736mb. But that didn't make the problem go away and the game still stutters.

So, what I am asking is: how much has the game been optimized and can we expect any optimizations via patches?

Otherwise, the game is great and is something oblivion should be in the first place. Great work guys(and gals)!
