Just started this as a mage and can't figure out how to use a scroll, lol!
Nothing I try with a controller works and on a mouse I have entered "e"
to equip the scroll and held down one or both mouse buttons with
no effect?

I myself do not know the controller key assignment. But you can read it in the system menu under control (esc key).

You equip a role like any spell (roles can only be used once). You equip spells in the magic menu. You have to click and mark roles in the inventory first. Then the spell is equipped in the left or right hand (as with spells). Then you can use it and "fire" it.

It is different with the teleport rolls. They are always equipped in both hands (but the game does this automatically).

I had tried what you said and it didn't work but I was making a mistake
in the clicking. I was equipping the scroll and then exiting the menu
to try to use it.

Instead I must equip the scroll and click on the equipped marker to
exit the menu.
