Thanks for a great game.

Having a problem and I don’t know whether it’s rooted in Skyrim or Enderal.

My thief character is level 34 with 33 sneak, but I’ve noticed I can sneak right up to enemies in full view and they hear me and go on alert, but never see me unless I stand up, bump into them, or attack them.

Then they attack but, if a run a few feet away and crouch again, they lose me again.

I’m running Enderal and Skyrim without mods.
I’ve also gone fairly far back in my saves and it doesn’t seem to help.
I’ve even tried using the console command: player.modAV sneak <value> to try to nerf my sneaking by reducing it to 0 and -30.
But it doesn’t change anything (in my character menu, the nerfed sneak vaues do show up).

It’s pretty boring to play this way, so I’m hoping there’s a simple answer.

Just an update — if I go all the way back to a save at level 27, with the same sneak skill (33) the problem goes away.
My equipment in this save is identical to thtta at level 34 too.

So I’m pretty sure it’s a corruption of a save file, or a bug.

I spoke too soon — I went the Pirate Grotto near Farmer’s Throne, and the problem started again.

do you have a save in which this problem doesn't occur?
(not necessarily for playing, just for checking differences)

please attach the latest working save and the latest save in general (without used cheats) to a post here.
they're found in (...\Documents\My Games\Enderal). we'll need the *.ess and the *.skse file;
pack both to a zip/rar/whatever archive, (the forum doesn't accept *.skse)

Here are two save sets.

In the earlier set, detection seems to be working.
A big mud nasty detected me when I was behind him — but this was outside and the worst problems seem to be inside. So I can't be totally sure.

In the second save set, I'm in Pirate Grotto and, when in sneak mode, I can pretty much throw a barmitzvah in front of enemies and they're oblivious.
As soon as I stand up or touch them, they attack.
I tried this location both with normal sneak (level 27, sneak 33), and with my sneak values nerfed using console (sneak 0).
Same results.

Who knows, maybe I've done something to pooch the game. But I've doen very little intrusion (no mods, and I've only used console for a few instances like using "tcl" to get out of polygon traps.

i think you send the same save(Nr 83.53.30) twice (in Fogville, and it seems o be working)

Your savegame 39 works for me without any problems.
With the newer Save (no. 40) you have one more active effect in the background than with the old one (39), if I remove all equipment and normal spell effects. (I have ignored the effect of the signet stone because it is added correctly)
I just don't know which effect causes the problem, because I can't test them all one by one now.
Such an error can occur e.g. with cheats, mods or possibly with engine errors.
So we can't say where exactly you got it from, I can only give you the advice to continue with the older save.

I can't recommend solutions via console here, because this can cause errors which might only become visible later and are then permanently defective.

I did apply console codes to reduce my sneak ability, and then put it back to normal. But that was after the problem started.

I also occasionally turned collision off to free the character if it was stuck between polygons.
So I suppose it’s possible some console effect is the cause.

I have, though, seen many reports of the Skyrim engine having glitches like this over the years. So my gut tells me that’s where the problem is.

I’ll proceed with the old save and be very strict with console use to see if it reappears.
