Hi!

I've started the quest with Esme and got her mission to find a certain book, however, I found this book and put it in my safe storage before seeing her for the first time and starting the quest. When I have the book in my inventory I don't get any journal update and going back to the ship does nothing either. The captain's corpse is gone as well. I can't remove the special book and put it on the ground either since it's a quest item.

What do I do?

could you attach a savegame (no auto- or quicksave) please?
ideally before you pick up the book from your storage.

they're found in (...\Documents\My Games\Enderal)
we'll need the *.ess and the *.skse file;
pack both to a zip/rar/whatever archive,

Sure! Here you go. I attached the files to this post. I've attached a save from the start of the game where I have picked up the book but not the quest and one from later on where I have the quest and the book but can't make progess. Hope that works!

did you read the book again (now that you actually have the quest)?
you should get the update that way

if that doesn't work try to let Steam verify your game files and try again.

you're on level 19(?) with save 47 and level 52 with save 46 o_o ?

Hi! I verified the game files and that fixed the issue. Upon reading the book, it showed a journal update and new (!) text implying that the contents of the book were damaged by the water and no longer readable. It previously contained like 3-4 pages of text, which I thought was pretty cool! I can't remember if it was about the passengers though. Thanks a lot for the great tip!

Regarding saves, I loaded up an old one with far less playtime where I didn't have the quest and made a "new" save, manually saving, so it simply got a new name and date.
