I press "New game", the screen goes black but the cursor still shows. I've waited 20 minutes and it still hasn't loaded.

)most common stuff first:
- do you have any Mods or an ENB installed?
- delete the two *.ini from ...\Documents\My Games\Skyrim and restart the game
(it will create a new one on launch)
- the full launcher log might be useful (to someone who can actually read it)
could you attach that? (the file (launcher.log) is located in ...\Skyrim\Enderallauncher\system\log)
No mods or ENBs, it's a fresh Skyrim install (though I played about 15 minutes of unmodded vanilla). Deleting the .inis did nothing, and as for the log:

let me preface that by saying that I have no actual idea what's causing that.

the only thing I could suggest is a clean reinstall.
where did you get the installation file from / which download option did you choose?
there might be something wrong with that - the torrent is usually the safest option.
