Looks like I broke my Enderal trying to mod it [solved] - by Pananacakes

Hi. I'm not sure if this should go in the support or modding threads so if it's in the wrong place, apologies.

I tried to mod Enderal. I loaded it's version of Skyrim esm in the Creation Kit and here's what I did:

1 - changed the 3 flame arrow perks to give added value attack damage mods
2 - made the flame arrow item non-playable by deselecting the playable check box

I saved those changes into an esp.

I also copied many psc source files from original Skyrim into my Enderal data/scripts/source folder to try to get a script to compile but that didn't work. I wasn't able to compile any scripts and NO pex files were created anywhere.

The game crashed right away with my esp loaded so I removed it.

Now Enderal won't load. No matter which save I pick it hangs until I close it with the task manager. As I said, the esp file I made is gone and I changed no pex files.

What did I do that borked by Enderal and can I fix it?

Very late here, but if understand correctly-- you imported Beth's Skyrim scripts into your Enderal installation?

Hope I don't insult your intelligence, but...

1.) You have to download something like Notepad ++ to compile scripts into PEX files, or for less complex stuff you can click "Add" when editing an item CK.

Compiled scripts go into the "scripts" folder, while your "source" code remains in the "Source" subfolder.

Path = [DriveLetter:\]Steam\SteamApps\Common\Skyrim\Data\Scripts\Source

2.) I don't think importing Skyrim scripts directly into Enderal would work because stuff running in background or controlling might use diff. terms. Example "SkillBook" might be "LernenBuch" and handled differently. Crash!

Does the game work if you move or rename your scripts folder? Should have everything it needs in "Scripts.BSA"

You didn't insult me but I do know where scripts go and how to compile and so on. I only copied script sources into any place having to do with Enderal, not pex files.

You were right though. Even though I added nothing to it but uncompiled script sources, I renamed the scripts folder in Enderal/Data to scripts~ and it worked again. Now it relies only on the scripts in the BSAs and it works so far with one noticeable but not game breaking bug.

Wait...you didn't do what I think you did, or?

By renaming your loose scripts folder you also removed all updated Enderal scripts from the game (as the patched scripts go into the loose script folder) - as the current .esm is build on those loose scripts not even I know just how many things you broke with that

@BigElectricCat You already have all the scripts loose, don't you? Would you be so kind and upload them somewhere so that Pananacakes can download them?

I would do so myself, but my scripts are not suitable anymore as I fixed many unlocalizeable German messages, hence my scripts would break things, too, if I won't give all of my .esp files with them ^^

Lol don't panic. Once I knew it was working again I renamed the folder back to plain old "scripts" and just removed the sources folder. It still works. I have no idea what was causing the problem (which was an endless hang on startup.)

Looks like OP has things well in hand, but since already uploaded...

Did you just upload 9k scripts unzipped?
Just zip them, the archiv could be uploaded within 1-2 seconds (~10MB)
