I have done the first two parts: Met Tealor and did the optional Get keepers garb. Now I am trying to "support the excavation in Old Dothulgrad, but when ever I highlight that in the Journal and choose Show on Map, it leads me back to Tealor in the Emporium, where I last left him, at the end of the long table. The conversations available are the ones I already went through: "About the Cycle...", "You were imprisoned...", etc. etc. I go through them again, and when they are all used up the quest arrow is still over his head.

What did I miss?

OK, I think I have it sorted thanks to a Wiki. Apparently I have to do a separate quest, already in my list, called Word of the Dead, which I think will generate another quest not already in my list called Deus Ex Machina, which should allow me to complete Shards of the Past - I hope.

A bit of a circuitous route, but I will do Word of the Dead and see what happens.

That's how the quest goes

Thealor should have asked you what you want to do first, you can decide between deus ex and word of the dead. When you're done with the quest, you go back, talk to him again and get the other quest you didn't do. Done this, you get the next quest.

Finished Word of the Dead. Did a couple of bounty missions. Went to do Deus Ex Machina but can't find Calia. Traveled to the Northern Heartland to meet her at the Myrad station. The quest arrow points to a wood crate I assume she is supposed to be standing in front of, but sh'es not there.

This is part of the main quest isn't it? Anyone have any suggestions?

I hope this doesn't have anything to do with me failing the quest where I was to get to know her better. I wanted to get to know her better, but didn't realize there was a time limit on it.

I am concerned now that I have somehow fubared the main quest.

I took the SOLVED out of the post title so this wouldn't get ignored. I am hesitant to try advancing further in the game lest I have to go back to a very old save. I did wait a while and went back a couple of times but still no Calia. So I am on hold.

Hope someone can come up with a solution or a console command to advance this quest. I know there is a command for that, but it requires a quest ID or something.

Also, am I imagining it, or did the title of this quest change from Shards of the Past to Fragments of the Past in the middle of it?
