Do I actually need to be able to use the hero screen? Is it important?

Well, it gives you an overview about all your skills, your learning points, crafting points and your overall progress. Usingthe Hero Screen, you know how to properly invest all your skill and crafting points.
As long as you can see all relevant information, one could live with the issue, maybe.

Its just that I kind of like having my game in 1280x1024.

some menu made only 16:9, but on 4:3 causing problem... like this ...

i fix it, but now i have black bars (borders)... endoran just a film
