I actually noticed a slight difference when investing in heavy armor and stuff, but it needs a lot of skillpoints to get a slightly noticeable change.
It would help if they had a description for what they improve.

I can confirm that there is no detailed tooltip about what each skill improves on the character. I want to raise Psionics, but I'm not sure what it does since I expect to be able to manipulate higher level enemies once I invest on it, but I'm afraid I won't get what I want by spending points on it.
Adding such feature to the english version would be great
It feels like that only at start, I'm playing as a 2h warrior, I felt the same as you and I heavily rely on summoned creatures to aid me handle crowds of well-geared opponents, but after spending 50 hours only on side-quests, I can barely handle myself with higher level summoned creatures and some enemies deals Hit Kills, hence I also use high level summoned creatures as dummies to know if it's safe to charge at the enemies in the "FOR THE HORDE" style

Then again, either the game is very easy (which i read from others it isnt) or magic is totally OP. I raised the difficulty to Master, and I'm still owning everything. If I wanted, my summoned bear would kill everything. But even with just elemental spells, running speed is so fast that I can kite everything by just walking back and never get hit. For ranged enemies I just sidestep fast too.
already discussed elsewhere:

When you kill enemies or complete quests, you receive experience points. Once you have enough, you advance to the next level. When that happens (1) you choose to increase health, mana or stamina, (2) you receive learning points for increasing combat skills, handicraft points for increasing non-combat skills (enchant, lockpick, etc), and a memory point to select a talent. You can see how many points you have on your character page (H key).
To use the memory point, go to your magic (P key) and select Meditate, then hit the Y key to go to your memory. You can select one talent on the memory trees for each memory point you have. Then hit Y again to go back to the real world.
To increase your skills, you need to find or buy learning books. Reading a learning book uses up 1 learning point or 1 handicraft point, depending on the type of skill, and increases that skill by 1 point. (See your character page H key). Apprentice books are used to increase skills up to level 25, Adept books 26-50, expert books level 51-75, and master books level 76-100.

That's what the skills are said to do, but I've noticed no in game changes to any values. So far I've dumped 20 points into one handed and I haven't seen changes.
I believe it works the same as regular skyrim. It increases the damage a given weapon does by a percentage. You do 100% base then I think .5% more per point of one handed/etc. In order to make a good character you need smithing to upgrade your weapon damage like that, and to make better weapons in general. If you have 6 damage on a dagger and you dual wield them, and have 35 one handed, you're only going to do 7.05 damage per dagger, I believe. It's incredibly minor. Smithing is a lot more important.

The hero menu tooltip doesn't have that info in english.Nicolas Samuel wrote:Mostly, skills in Enderal function the same way they function in Skyrim - a higher level in Elementarism significantly lowers the mana cost of elementarism spells, which in return increases your damage output, as mana is very sparse. Actually, the mouse over text in the Hero Menu should provide you with an explanation of what exactly raising a skill does. We added that quite late in the development of the German version, so maybe it got lost in the English one?
I would prefer damage/duration spell scaling tbh, mana cost reduction doesn't feel very desirable (same in vanilla). There are some numbers on spell descriptions, that look dynamic. Increasing those numbers with skill level would feel much cooler.

Don't get me wrong, I'm LOVING the "mod". I'm posting everywhere that I can't even believe how good it is.
Have you finished the game and faced more challenging enemies? Because yes the foes in the first area are easy and are certainly meant to be, advance in the game and you'll find some tougher enemies. Regarding the magic skills, it works like in vanilla Skyrim as answered previously, meaning higher skill reduce mana cost of casting a spell, it makes perfect sense in my opinion since mana can deplete very quickly especially for a pure mage; on the other hand if you want more powerful spells you just have to use more powerful spells... Master versions dealing the more damage and higher skill meaning casting more spells with the same mana pool.
So, increasing elementalism skill my elemental spells should cost less? When does it happen? I mean I increased this skill by several points but it didn't do anything. Does spell mana cost reduction happens only when you reach 25/50 etc points?
PS I've just increased my elementalism skill to 25 and mana cost is the same for my elemental spells.
Could it be so that this skill affects only enchanted items? The higher the skill the more charges you get?

I see... does it stack with -% mana reduction cost talent and focus?
