Audio Problem
Post by Foamybrew »
Hello,

When I try to play Nehrim, it appears to work fine, gets to the main menu and all, except the sound appears to have a loud "static" associated with it. This seems to be particularly pronounced at the main menu and character creation, although, I can still hear some background static during gameplay as well. I've listened to some of the music files in Windows Media Player, and they sound just fine there. There doesn't appear to be any problems with the native Oblivion sound files.

My audio card is a SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit with the latest drivers installed. I installed the K-Lite Codec Pack after I first encountered the problem, and that didn't help. I have the Steam version of the game which, to my knowledge, comes with the latest patch. Also, I have followed the instructions for Steam version installation of Nehrim to the best of my ability. I tried installing it several times, even going so far as to reinstall Oblivion, but to no avail.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I can, and will, give more info about my predicament and/or system if need be.

Thanks

I have the same problem. In my case, the statis sound appears in any part of the map. It disappears if I quit the effects sound, but I don't know what to do in order to have the effects except the static sound...

P. S. Sorry if my english is bad.

To update, it appears this is a problem with either my Oblivion installation or my system in general. I can confirm it's not localized to Nehrim. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Sometimes downloading a codec pack can help if you have sound problems with Oblivion.

After installing three different codec packs, the final one seems to have done the trick. Now I can finally play some Nehrim. :D

For anyone else who might have the same problem, this is the codec pack that fixed it: http://www.xpcodecpack.com/download

I still have several audio glitches around, but only with some ambiant sounds. The most annoying one is when the smith uses his hammer to hit the anvil: the sound's completely weird, distorted and loud. NPC walking on wood surface may also cause this. I'm using WinXP and did install the latest audio codecs. Any other idea?
