At the very start of the game after you fall through the boards, I can't move at all. It's like I'm stuck in an invisible box. Supposedly I'm supposed to have a torch but I don't as far as I can tell. What have I done wrong?

Are you saying that when you open your inventory you do not have a torch? If there is not one there that is a weird one.

Start a new game.
Do exactly what you are told in the pop up boxes, in the order you are told to.


That should fix you problem, if not:

I have a similar problem. I have a torch though. And I grab the dagger. But I still can't really move. It acts like I am stuck on the wood pieces. I slowly slide around within an invisible box but can't move or jump beyond the broken planks. I even started another new game and the same thing happened. My Oblivion is a fresh install with the latest patch. I have nothing installed but the core game and this mod (in its own folder).

Update: Using TCL (no clip mode) cheat I can get outside of the box, but I am still stuck moving in super slow motion. I jump and attack at normal speed though. The guy at the beginning only tells me that there is no time to waste, even when I have grabbed the dagger and am able to clip out of the "box."


Final Update: It was a game controller that was plugged in. For some reason, it wasn't calibrated correctly and was controlling my character even though I wasn't using it. After calibrating the controller, all was well.

Oh yes. That's an old oblivion bug - game controllers plugged in lame down the player movements even if they are not used.

I am having the same issue, with no game controller installed. Just mouse and keyboard. Fresh Oblivion install, latest patch, etc.

I was having the same problem, couldn't move and no torch, turned out the problem was I was using Oblivion master file in the data profile, if you uncheck that it should work.

Youre not supposed to be able to move before you press tab, navigate to your inventory and equip the torch. I agree the intro is very confusing - you are not supposed to light the torch, you are supposed to equip it.
