Leveling attributes

When I read of this mod, I was immediately excited by the fact that it included experience points.

However, when I played the mod, I found that the leveling system was otherwise identical to the one in Oblivion.

Oblivion's leveling system has problems. Namely, you must level a certain number of attributes, which are done through the process of leveling associated skills, in order to get the desired allocation of attribute points at every given level. Failure to properly micromanage this system resulted in crippled builds wherein skill allocations betrayed the purpose of the build.

While Nehrim's experience system fixes the issue of major versus minor skill leveling, it does not solve the otherwise obnoxious issue of forcing players to grind a certain number of attribute skills in order to get the full benefit from their levelup and the desired allocation of skill points.

The solution to this is simple. First, there is a modification for vanilla Oblivion called "AF Leveling Mod" that makes leveling less painstaking. Levels are automatically gained and the only thing they affect is health gained. So they are essentially irrelevant to the player. Alternately, attribute points are gained as soon as you gain the requisite number of skill gains in a given attribute class. E.g. as soon as you raise blunt skill 3 points, you gain a strength point, irrespective of whether you level up. This system removes the troubling optimization work that has to be done per level with the Oblivion leveling system, which this mod has unfortunately retained.

Alternately, a system could be used which removes skill levels. Skill levels could receive allocation points per level just like attributes. Allocation points would be fixed per level so there was no need for troublesome optimization.

As it stands, just like Oblivion before it, I can't bring myself to play this mod any more. I'm just too obsessive compulsive and I can't be troubled to spend the time grinding skill gains just to get the requisite number of attribute points to make a functioning build.

Yes, but you don't need getting the full benefits at each level. There is no hurry - the enemies don't level with you; you can wait for the next level. You are right that one of the flaws in Oblivion's levelling system has been retained; however, in my opinion, this isn't a game-breaker without the main flaw (levelscaling).
