I personally think the mages are a tad one sided in Enderal as compared to the parent game - I use a bow in both, also fire atronachs & sneak skills, I have played this game 2 years now and a bow is your best bet to kill a distant mage, who by the way has no armor yet can withstand many hits with a powerful bow. you can sometimes get close to a mage "a single mage" and take him out with any weapon but two or more it becomes very tough, I have leveled to around 60 at times sneak / bow / flame atronach are my favorite attack tools.

As mentioned by another get just into bow range use sneak, I will shoot a arrow or two to separate them & lure them closer if need be, usually you can pick one off at a time & the others will go back to business as normal, so you can start on the next target, lure, separate & terminate.

Stay in sneak position & do not move, any movement they will be on you.

Have fun.

Indifferent? No, speaking only for myself, I am intentionally ignoring your questions. The main indifference I see is your indifference to everyone else's time and effort. You have asked seemingly hundreds of questions on this forum and you seem to expect a bevy of answers for each. However, you often ask questions that are quite simple where the answer can be found by searching the forum or the wiki or the internet. For example, if you google "Enderal:Gagantua" you will find a video that shows exactly how one player took on these wild mages and defeated them. Did you view it? Did you even look for it? And it seems all you do is ask and complain. How many of your 100+ posts have answered other people's questions?

You seem to expect hundreds of other people to spend hundreds of hours of their time filling up the wiki with information so that the answer to every question you have can be found with you barely lifting a finger. But wait, there's more. I recall last year you asked a question where the answer was readily available in the wiki, and you then admitted you didn't even bother to check the wiki for the answer. Yet you admit that you don't contribute to it, but you expect everyone else to do so.

You have posted dozens of complaints about the Enderal wiki and forum, comparing it to what you can find for Skyrim. Wow, Skyrim, put out by a team of hundreds of paid professionals 7 years ago, which has sold millions of copies (and how many more were played with pirated copies), is still being actively sold and played with their online version, and you seem to expect that the wiki and forum participation for Enderal should be comparable, even though it was developed by a small handful of part-time enthusiasts, only out for less than 2 years, and only downloaded by a small percentage of those who have Skyrim.

This forum may appear to lack activity to you, but look at the posts of dyslexicfaser; she has had almost 12,000 views, so obviously people are watching the forum. Many people have played Enderal and moved on, or they are watching and waiting for FS to come out. Most factual questions are answered by the wiki. Many other topics have already been discussed and the answers can be found by searching the forum.

You also seem to conflate the wiki and the forum. The wiki will provide answers to factual questions where the answer is the same for everyone, such as "where is the key for door X" or "where can I buy ambrosia potions?" It is not a walkthrough, a strategy guide, or a discussion of builds and tactics. You ask how to defeat a couple of wild mages. I ask, how did you make it to level 35 without being able to take on a couple of them? You provide no information on your tactics, weapons, equipment, or what you have tried to do to defeat them, but you are critical because someone doesn't hand you a simple answer on a silver platter.

So, I am not indifferent. I have tried many times to help people on this and other forums. But when I see a post by MacSuibhne, I think OMG, now what!

This was a civil conversation until your self-important, self righteous little rant--no anger, no vitriol , no personal attacks... not on my part, not on anyone's part. Nor in any other post I've ever made here. In fact I seriously doubt that you can document any examples of remarks that I have made before this last several that are in any way derogatory or accusatory.

But you're right, "indifference" isn't the right word...esp. not when it comes to you, in particular. You're not answering my questions because you're above it all. Too savvy, too much the Enderal Guru. It's a burden for people like you to be engaged in any way with the unwashed, non-techies, and the clueless. You have to lower yourself to answer questions.

The major reason I don't contribute to the wiki or answer questions here is because I don't claim to know it all. Or even very much. That's why I come here--trying to learn. I'm asking questions, not showing off. Maybe my questions are dumb or maybe if I poured over empty wiki entries for a year or two I wouldn't need to ask any questions. But I just want to play the game not analyze cryptic or incomplete documentation. [ And FWIW, it's a translation from German...the whole game is]

What is this forum intended for if not as a resource for people trying to learn? People have different styles of learning. I use the wiki when I find it relevant and "there." I try to ask questions when i can't find the answer readily in the documentation.

But , the question your ginned up outrage begs is "why have a forum at all if the answer is always "look somewhere else." "Figure it out yourself" "Google it"? No, I understand...if everyone did that, the weight you're carrying would be lighter.

Beyond that, sometimes I ask questions, and then pursue the replies because I am looking for civil conversation and a sharing of the experiences. Responses such as yours don't brook conversations or encourage sharing. maybe that's why this forum is so dead.

All that BS about how many people respond and how many posts they have, is just that-- self-congratulatory BS. That may have been true early on but nowadays this forum and questions that are posted sit unanswered or minimally answered for days, weeks and even months.
But I guess if you're not really engaged, if it's all too much bother and all beneath you, you don't notice that.

And PS...FWIW, I have gotten a lot of good, informative, and civil help here and thanked every single person both for the knowledge and the time taken. Personally thanked them, not just clicked on an icon.

Guys, stop it, I don't like where this is heading. This is going out of hand. Stop insulting each other, stop accusing each other of being a certain person / type of personality. Start being nice and constructive - or I'll close this thread.
We have such a small community, there is no need to harass eachother about such trivialities.

I (and I am probably not alone) would love to help everyone at everytime, but I simply don't have the time to respond to everything that has been posted. As well as I don't have the time to fill up the wiki with all the information that I could add. Creating and editing your own articles and checking other wiki articles is incredibly time consuming and basically there is no reward for it. People want to be rewarded constantly for everything that they do, because that is what drives most of us. And that is why there are only a few people who are willing to give up their free time to provide something that is only a "use" to others.
Comparing Skyrim's playerbase and our player base and their repsective activity and willingness to answer questions was hopefully a joke. However, it is true that "normal forums" aren't that popular anymore, it all moves into another direction: Social Media, Reddit, Chat Rooms (for example Discord). At Enderal's release this forum boomed with a lot of people being active (especially in the german forum) and most questions were answered back then. But this was almost two years ago, and Enderal simply doesn't have the replayability that Skyrim naturally has due to its design. And therfore we have a dwindling community. That is a fact.
Maybe there will be a time where this forum is completely dead with not even a single visitor a day. Or maybe the biggest german speaking video game Youtuber and streamer ("Gronkh") starts playing Enderal (as he said once in a livestream) and suddenly this forum and the wiki are both booming and growing again.

Until then (whatever may be the case): Nice, constructive posts are appreciated. Nothing else.

Thank you...I understand.

I would like to reiterate, however, that this discussion was civil until....

Even my slightly critical remarks, initially, were made in response to another member, and then only as a wish that this forum were more active.

Having said that, I am a firm believer that objective discussion, devoid of defensiveness and/or personality is healthy and constructive. And nice. That's the way I try to roll. If that's a problem I would welcome knowing that.

I might add that I am fully aware and fully appreciative of all the people who have made Enderal possible and all the people who have taken/given their precious time to answer my questions.

That said, I don't think that anything I have said or done in all the time I have been a member here warrants the personal attack that was directed at me. If there is concrete, objective evidence to the contrary, I will own it.

I shall make one final comment, and then I will respect stuemper's request. My post received "thanks" from 3 SureAI moderators. Make of that what you will.

don't know about the others, but I generally thank people if they were absurdly helpful
as well as if they made some good points somewhere in a rant ;)

@MacSuibhne
I originally only posted in this thread because you began to sound strangely passive-aggressive.
if that wasn't your intention, I apologize sincerely, I tend to read to much into things :)

it's possible that I didn't say everything I meant to (or too much),
but I'm leaving this thread alone (for now) as well :)

Let me apologize ahead of time for pursuing this and responding to your remarks...this thread is effectively no man's land anyway and I am apparently persona non grata, so perhaps I can offer an insight or two from the perspective of someone who has survived for more than seven decades and who was posting on digital forums since before there was an Internet (fidonet)...FWIW:

No worries..only I don't know what that means--"strangely passive aggressive." Is asking questions...even dumb questions...passive aggressive? Is honesty and openness passive aggressive? If I knew what that means perhaps I could change the way I post...to the extent that I can or am welcome to post at all.

In that regard, I'm not sure what any of this means...esp. for me going forward.

You thanked me in post #10, although I can't think why, except perhaps that I had indicated my willingness to move on.

But the bigger, and more important question now is how do I continue to post here? What good does it do to ask questions when people are "intentionally" ignoring them? When three moderators apparently approve of unwarranted personal attacks?

I'm sure it doesn't make any difference, at all, if I don't feel welcome here...if I no longer ask my irritating questions--I have little to offer except more questions (which, in the best of circumstances, can spur further conversation/traffic...for whatever that's worth) and/or perhaps an insight into what the average user of this forum experiences.

But in that regard, I'm just a symptom.

It is not social media that is to blame for problems here or in any forum. Forums are communities. The more tolerant and engaged the community, the healthier the forum. And, generally speaking, the larger and more active. The more exclusive, intolerant and less open, the weaker and the less attractive to outsiders.

But perhaps that's the way people want it. It does tend to be self-reinforcing.

badgesareus' post was a bit ranty, but he had a point in saying "people are watching the forum"
and "most answers can be found"

you had a point in saying shitty mods lead to empty forums
(and I took that as constructive criticism, even if I don't think that our forum has that problem)

I read your repeated remarks about "thank you for answering, but oh my, the forum/wiki is real dead"
for slightly passive aggressive.
as said, I read to much into things, you have my apologies :)

I'm sorry about that :/

we do our best to answer questions, for everyone.

my actual first train of thought, with this initial question, as soon as I read it?
[+] +
"hm, no idea. maybe that dude should just go and check? depends on skillset, and playerskill, and gear, and whatnot.
no idea, what level i generally am at that point.
hope someone knows more about that."

("ok, that other guy has an ILS..uhhh
probably mods? let's see...")

of course you're welcome to ask.
more than welcome.

but if there's really a question sitting for several days or even weeks,
the poster may have to realize that there are humans on the other side of the screen,
who don't necessarily know everything. we google stuff just the same.
(or stuff might get forgotten, very rarely, but happened I think)
and at that point that OP can't just completely rely on the forum and may have to research on their own ;)
