First of all, I would like to commend the new paper map.
A "normal" explorer certainly had a paper card at hand and not a smartphone with "GoogleVyn" on it.
However, as can be seen in various discussions, not all players are happy with the new paper map.
Therefore, this is an attempt to offer a compromise to those who miss the 3D world map in form of using Enderal's "flat 3D map".
I have converted my "Flat 3D World Map" to DDS format so that it can be used by the program.
The attached ZIP file contains the map file called Enderal_main.dds.
In the folder
Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\
Data\textures\map
first rename the existing file Enderal_main.dds (for example in Enderal_main_org.dds) for a backup.
Then unpack my map file into exactly this directory, so that you have a file called Enderal_main.dds again.
At last start the game as usual and enjoy "GoogleVyn" by pressing "M" ...
PS: I have the folder structure in the ZIP file, so that it also could be installed with e.g. NMM (but honestly I did not try it...)
As an alternative: Replace the paper map by the "flat 3D Worldmap"

Thanks for this. I haven't tried it yet but it looks like a great alternative.
Just a thought, when the FS dlc is released, I wonder if it will have any new locations/map markers that don't yet exist and if they will show up automatically in your alternative 3D map, or if you will have to update it.

Perhaps the map should be found somewhere in the first temple/dungeon just for the sake of logic. (Am I nitpicking?)

It's just the map structure, the mod does not change signposts.
The map remains 2D, like the current (or as described "flat 3D map")
The map gets so only a similar texture as before, a kind of aerial view.

Archäologin und Mumiensammlerin? ja , alte Spiele grabe ich gerne wieder aus. Zumindest die, die es Wert sind, nicht vergessen zu werden.

it wasn't doable, technically
now we can just pretend that we and Sirius prepared ourselves a bit.
maps of other continents should be buyable in Nehrim too, no?

I think maps would have been expensive in Nehrim, and the stowaways probably couldn't afford one. Also, I would think that nasty captain would have removed anything even slightly valuable before throwing them overboard.
Jespar doesn't have to actually give you "the" map, just a line of dialog that he gave you a map would suffice. This is a very important issue and I feel the entire SureAI team should spend all of their time resolving it before doing anything else.
