Release Date
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is scheduled to be released on 11 November 2011.
Story
4E200, 200 years after the Oblivion Crisis,
The king of Skyrim has been murdered, triggering a civil war among her people, the Nords. Many Nords wish to secede from the empire, which has been declining in power since the fall of the Septim Dynasty 200 years earlier, while others believe the empire is still worth preserving. A prophecy foretold by the Elder Scrolls is fully realized by this last event; dragons have returned to the land, and the Nordic god Alduin rises to consume the world. The player character is the last of the "Dovahkiin" (or "dragonborn"), who were dragon hunters. Esbern serves as advisor, himself one of the last of the Blades, who swore to preserve the Empire. This prophecy is also spelled out on Alduin's Wall, a stone wall at Sky Haven Temple, the secret hidden refuge of the last of the Blades.
Combat and movement
* Dual wielding will be introduced; any one-handed weapon can be chosen in each hand (for example: Mace and Dagger, 1h-Sword and 1h-Sword, 1h-Axe and a fire spell, a fire spell left and an ice spell right)
* Finishing moves that are unique to both the weapon you are using and the target you are hitting.
* Character will be able to Sprint by expending extra Stamina.
* Backwards running will now be a bit slower than in Oblivion (in Oblivion you ran backwards at the same speed you ran forwards)
* There were rumours that Spears would be introduced in Skyrim, but Todd Howard denies this.
* Destruction spells are now more flexible tools: a fire spell is not just a fireball, it can also be used as a flamethrower or to place fire traps on the ground.
* Archery: arrows shot with a bow are now more deadly, 1 or 2 shots kill, but arrows are in short supply and the firing rate is much slower.
Attributes and Skills
* The Enchanting skill (last seen in Morrowind) returns, allowing you to imbue a weapon or armour piece with any spell effect.
* Removal of the Mysticism attribute; skills that were under Mysticism are now separated between the other magic schools.
* Cooking, farming, wood-cutting, and mining- in addition to weapon-smithing- can be done in different towns.
* Leveling from 1 to 50 will be much faster than before. You will still be able to gain more levels after 50, but much, much slower.
* With each new level you gain, you will be able to choose some form of power-up tied to the 18 attributes. (For example: A perk that will increase the damage output of daggers during stealth) (A bit similar to the Talents used in World of Warcraft for those who are familiar with this)
Character Creation and Customization
* Classes (such as Spellword, Monk, Bard, etc.) will be removed and there will be no more Major-Minor skills; this gives more freedom to how you want your character to be.
* 10 playable races to choose from.
* Beards and customizable body features will be available at character creation.
Environment and World
* The province of Skyrim will have 5 large cities (which will later be atttacked by dragons from above)
* Hostile creatures include mammoths; giant spiders; elk; trolls; ice wraiths; zombies; sabre-toothed cats; giants; wolves; skeletons; and, yes, dragons. Children are also featured in the game.
* "Dynamic shadows" will be used and snow will fall and accumulate dynamically. Plants will move more believably with the wind, and the water in the game will actually flow along a course.
* The faces of NPCs have been extensively overhauled, and will show distinct differences between races and more varied emotional expressions. No more puffy monkey faces!
