The chest is at the foot of the bed you woke up in after the initiation. you might have to reload a previous save game to retrieve your things if the cell has been reset though.
Yeah I can understand that, I'll probably do the same once I've installed it. I've had a modded skyrim for so long it will be almost impossible to return to vanilla:)

The Butcher of Ark takes place 50 years before the vents of Enderal if i'm not mistaken.
There was talk about that there was going to be a sidequest in the game that allows you to follow in the footsteps of the protagonist but i'm not sure if the plot in the book itself will have a large influence ...

Yeah I remebered Barateon outlawed the use of magic I just didn't know if it was a common thing in Vyn.
