I disagree. Ultimately art is subjective
And that is the reason that despite the disagreement, I can understand your point, Ragnarok's point and I think you are not wrong in your opinion. :)
But I feel that if the overal mechanics were even less like Bethesda games the experience would be ...

Ah, you made yourself a lot clearer now. :D I can agree that art creation itself is already an experience of achieving transcendence. Sure, to create art the artist must percieve the world with a level of abstraction that is trasncendent to the human perception of the world, that much I agree.
And ...

This is the part I disagree the most. I am an artist myself (music) and I never seen art with this goal.
In my opinion,
Knowing what people "need" is the job of the marketing department, focus testing etc. Sure, most "entertainers" perform with the audience preferences in mind. But saying that a ...

Yeah you are right. The frustration is part of the experience and to remove that frustration the developers would have to sacrifice a lot of their artistic vision of the game. But I guess that I liked the overal Enderal experience but I am just tired of downer endings in general. At least I think I ...
Good point.
I wonder if that frustration Enderal seems to cause is not a parallel to reality, where the impression of choice is often an illusion as well.
I would not go that far. Choices in game design are simple when compared to our choices in real life. We might get frustrated on real life if ...

I think that the power to shape the world via your actions or not is rather tied to the overal game mechanics. By that I mean that open world RPGs benfit the most from having more decisions and different outcomes based on your decisions than other games. Even if the differences are subtle. Skyrim ...
Yeah, no game ever met all the things that I am looking for. Most of my favorite games come close to it. And actually most of the things on that list I did not knew I wanted before I met a game that made that feature right. Like I never cared for Romance subplots untill I completed Mass Effect. It ...
I'll try Jade Empire next. Pillars of Eternity had quite nice reviews and I admit I have some curiosity about it. It seems very "old school" style. Shadowrun seems nice, cyberpunk is not my favorite style but if the story is good as Deus Ex I might be able to get immersed on the story instead of the ...
Yeah. I changed my taste. On the glory days of the PSone I played JRPGs a lot and had no problem with the straight foward plot and ending. I am still looking for the perfect balance between both styles. Mass Effect is my favorite RPG to date and it managed to "kinda mix both" open world and focused ...
I need help. I want more experiences like Enderal. But my heart is not ready for a second playtrough yet. I would like at least something "similar" to Enderal's features. I am hoping you guys can help me find a game to play now that I finished the mod. I have very specific tastes when it comes to ...

Insects begone is reported to be working on Enderal. I have aracnophobia myself but I am dumb enough not to use this mod because spiders make me so terrified that whenever I see one on Skyrim on Enderal the game becomes survival horror to me and I shoot fireballs around like there was no tomorrow ...
I can think of three possible DLCs and two of them would adress the ending somehow.
1. A prequel story of some sort in which you do not play as the prophet and that would try to answer some of our questions, maybe with more hooks to the Nehrim mod or more answers to the Veiled Woman role
2. A ...

I completed the game a few hours ago and posted this on the Story discussion section:

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I knew that Enderal had a fixed ending before playing, so I took care of exploring everything I could (I think I unlocked the whole map locations) before triggering the Main Quest, so that I could then pursue the main story fully immersed.
Make no mistake ...
I don't speak polish. However we can kinda build the word using similar ones. Google told me that for instance "filantrope" in polish is "filantrop". The "trope" in the ending of sinistrope is the same suffix meaning as filantrope. "Sinister", that would translate quite accurately the "Sinistra ...
Yeah, the story is very well written and wrapped up indeed. Still, a happier tone would have made, in my opinion, a better ending overall. I supose that contuining the game as a sandbox is a problem because of the whole extinction thing but then again I think that this story did not deserve to have ...
