Try pressing "H" - just guessing cause thats the only flashing message I saw initally. It does that a lot at first, then stops altogether later. I guess they were scripting it that way to be guideful. The Hero screen is non-interactable, but you can figure out the game and where to take your ...

Actually, all that is needed is to take all of your gear and put it in a sack (there is one convienently located near the two bottom star locks). You apparently run faster with 0 encumbrance. Just remember to loot it all back and re-equip/re-favorite your items.
